  1. 1. Varicose Veins : Aspects on Diagnosis and Surgical Treatment

    Author : Lena Blomgren; David Bergqvist; Gunnar Johansson; Lars Norgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Varicose veins; Venous insufficiency; Surgery; Duplex; Quality of life; Cost analysis; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Treatment for varicose veins (VV) is insufficiently evidence based and recurrence rates are high. The aim of this thesis was to study the long-term results after VV surgery, risk factors for recurrences and the effect of preoperative duplex scanning on recurrence rate, quality of life (QoL) and costs. 2. 2. Conctraction-mediating receptors in human peripheral vessels with special reference to veins and lymphatics

    Author : Trygve Sjöberg; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; arteries; veins; lymphatis; contraction; in vitro; in vivo; adrenergic receptors; noradrenaline; cirazoline; phenylephrine; clonidine; calcium antagonists; nifedipine; diltiazem; prostaglandins; thromboxane A2; U-46619; BM-13.505; indomethacin;

    Abstract : By means of a myograph, postjunctional alpha-adrenoceptors were characterized in human superficial epigastric arteries and veins obtained from health subjects. The rank order of potency of subtype selective agonists could not be used for receptor characterization in these vessels, whereas antagonists gave distinct results. READ MORE

  3. 3. A study on the vascular effects of prostaglandin F2α[ and latanaprost in the eye with special reference to the surface hyperaemia after topical administration

    Author : Maria Astin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Prostaglandin F2a; Prostaglandin F2a-isopropyl ester; latanoprost; latanoprost acid; ocular hyperaemia; blood flow; sensory nerves; veins; arteries; nitric oxide; substance P; CGRP; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmacognosy; farmakognosi;

    Abstract : The ocular hypotensive effect of topically applied prostaglandins is usually accompanied byconjunctival hyperaemia and irritation. The purpose of the present study was to investigate thepharmacological mechanism of the ocular surface hyperaemia induced by topically appliedprostaglandins, particularly prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and its synthetic analogue latanoprost, aselective FP prostanoid receptor agonist. 4. 4. Distensibility in Arteries, Arterioles and Veins in Humans : Adaptation to Intermittent or Prolonged Change in Regional Intravascular Pressure

    Author : Roger Kölegård; Ola Eiken; Toste Länne; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arterial stiffness; venous distensibility; venous flow characteristics; bedrest; pressure training; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The present series of in vivo experiments in healthy subjects, were performed to investigate wall stiffness in peripheral vessels and how this modality adapts to iterative increments or sustained reductions in local intravascular pressures. Vascular stiffness was measured as changes in arterial and venous diameters, and in arterial flow, during graded increments in distending pressures in the vasculature of an arm or a lower leg. 5. 5. No-Touch Saphenous Veins in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : Long-term Angiographic, Surgical, and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Ninos Samano; Domingos Souza; Håkan Geijer; Torbjörn Ivert; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Computed tomography angiography; coronary artery bypass grafting; left internal thoracic artery; no-touch harvesting technique; patency; saphenous vein; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Ischemic heart disease is currently the leading cause of death globally. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is considered the best treatment for many patients and its success depends on the long-term patency of the conduits. READ MORE
