  1. 1. Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Inferior Vena Cava (REBOVC) : Experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Maria B. Wikström; Kristofer F. Nilsson; Tal M. Hörer; Pirkka Vikatmaa; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retrohepatic inferior vena cava; trauma; injury; hemorrhagic shock; endovascular; REBOVC;

    Abstract : Juxtahepatic venous injuries often cause life-threatening hemorrhagic shock, the mortality is high and new management methods are needed. The aims were to explore endovascular methods for retrohepatic vascu-lar isolation, their effects on survival, hemodynamics, metabolism, end-organ damage and bleeding, and if ultrasound and anatomical land-marks could be used to guide placement of resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the inferior vena cava (REBOVC). 2. 2. Cerebral Perfusion and Metabolism during Experimental Extracorporeal Circulation

    Author : Ove Jonsson; Stefan Thelin; Fredrik Lennmyr; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral perfusion; Experimental brain research; Experimentell hjärnforskning; Thoraxkirurgi; Thorax Surgery;

    Abstract : Neurologic injuries are major causes of mortality and morbidity after cardiac surgery. This thesis aimed to investigate cerebral metabolism and perfusion abnormalities in pigs during hypothermic circulatory arrest, selective antegrade cerebral perfusion (SACP) and extracorporeal circulation following progressive venous stasis. 3. 3. Decellularization as a method to generate a new generation of vascular grafts

    Author : Robin Simsa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tissue engineering; vascular grafts; cardiovascular disease; decellularization;

    Abstract : Decellularization of blood vessels is a technique to remove cells from the extracellular matrix (ECM), which can be used as a vascular graft for peripheral or coronary blood vessel bypass surgery. This thesis focuses on the optimization of decellularization strategies for blood vessels such as porcine vena cava, to determine the optimal decellularization protocol (Paper I) and the ideal method of applying liquids during the decellularization process (Paper II). 4. 4. Hemodilution with dextran: Effects on blood flow and thrombus formation. An experimental study in the rabbit

    Author : Lieselotte Frost-Arner; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; orthopaedics; Surgery; Hypertonic saline-dextran; Desmopressin; Heparin; Dextran; Rabbit; Synthetic vascular grafts; Blood flow; Hemodilution; Thrombus formation; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Microvascular surgery enables free tissue flaps to cover tissue defects, e.g. after trauma and malignancies. Although major improvements in techniques have been made, problems with poor tissue circulation and thrombus formation still exist. READ MORE

  5. 5. Uterus transplantation. An experimental study in the mouse

    Author : Randa Racho El-Akouri; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; implantation; ischemia; mouse; pregnancy; rejection; transplantation; uterus;

    Abstract : Uterus transplantation is a possible future treatment for uterine factor infertility, which can be either congenital (uterus agenesis/hypoplasia) or acquired (hysterectomy or intrauterine adhesions). The present study represents experiments where an animal model for uterine transplantation was developed and characterized. READ MORE
