  1. 1. Characterization of a new amino acid transport system in human epidermal Langerhans cells

    University dissertation from Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Lund University

    Author : Niels Bendsöe; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amino acid transport; energy charge; epidermis; glycolysis; lactate; Langerhans cells; L-dopa; mitochondria; omeprazole; Dermatology; venereology; Dermatologi; venereologi;

    Abstract : Based on the discovery of a new amino acid transport system in Langerhans cells (LC), various aspects concerning the L-dopa uptake mechanism into human epidermal LC and the energy metabolism of epidermis have been examined and subsequently characterised. The system lacks any characteristics of other described amino acid transport systems in other cell types. READ MORE

  2. 2. ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF HISTIDINE-RICH GLYCOPROTEIN AND CATIONIC PEPTIDES

    University dissertation from Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper, Lunds universitet

    Author : Victoria Rydengård; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2007]

    Abstract : In an environment full of potential pathogens it is of importance for organisms to mount a fast and effective defence. Antimicrobial peptides are ancient and integral effector molecules of the innate immune system. They are found in all kinds of species from bacteria to plants and animals, indicating their importance during evolution. READ MORE

  3. 3. Clinical and experimental studies in nickel allergy

    University dissertation from Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Lund University

    Author : Monica Hindsén; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nickel absorption; Nickel; allergic contact dermatitis; patch test reactivity; flare-up reactions; oral nickel provocation; previous contact dermatitis; hand eczema; atopy; Dermatology; venereology; Dermatologi; venereologi;

    Abstract : Kliniska och experimentella studier av nickelallergi Nickelallergi är vanligt, särskilt hos kvinnor. Nickelallergi leder ofta till periodiskt eller kroniskt eksem, främst på händerna. Dessa eksem kan vara svårläkta och leda till långa sjukskrivningsperioder. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterisation and treatment of patients with port wine stains with special reference to the emotional impact

    University dissertation from Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Lund University

    Author : Agneta Troilius; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; capillary malformation; PWS; pulsed dye laser; laser doppler imager; ultrasound; psychosocial impact; depth; reflectance spectrophotometry; Dermatologi; venereologi; venereology; Dermatology;

    Abstract : This thesis covers 12 years of experience in treating patients with congenital capillary malformations, so called port wine stains (PWS). The wide variation in treatment response to laser therapy has developed a profound need for the development of objective devises to measure treatment outcome, so that the maximum effectiveness of therapy can be achieved without unnecessary treatments. 5. 5. Chemical and Clinical Studies of Isocyanate Contact Allergy with focus on diphenylmethane diisocyanate

    University dissertation from Department of Occupational and Environmental Dermatolog, Deparment of Dermatology, Malmö University Hospital

    Author : Malin Engfeldt; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; venereologi; Dermatologi; venereology; Dermatology; occupational; allergic contact dermatitis; polyurethane;

    Abstract : Isocyanates are highly reactive compounds used in the production of polyurethane. Exposure to isocyanates is mainly associated with respiratory disorders, but may also result in allergic contact dermatitis. Reports describing contact allergy to isocyanates are few in number and it has been considered a rare phenomenon. READ MORE
