6. Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction in 75-year-old Men and Women : A Community-based Study of Prevalence, Screening and Mitral Annulus Motion for Diagnosis and Prognostics
Abstract : Reduced performance of the left ventricle to eject blood – left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) – is a common predecessor of the heart failure syndrome. With or without symptoms, LVSD is associated with a poor prognosis. READ MORE

7. Assessment of Left Ventricular Dysfunction and Remodelling by Determination of Atrioventricular Plane Displacement and Simplified Echocardiography
Abstract : Heart failure is a common disease characterised by poor prognosis and frequent hospitalisations, constituting a major economic burden to society. Mortality and morbidity can be reduced by optimal treatment, requiring objective evaluation of cardiac function and anatomy. READ MORE

8. Left Ventricular Function in Elderly Men : Metabolic, Hormonal, Genetic and Prognostic Implications
Abstract : Heart failure and left ventricular dysfunction are major causes of morbidity and mortality. In this thesis, metabolic, hormonal, genetic and prognostic aspects of echocardiographically determined left ventricular function were investigated in a fairly large longitudinal population-based study of men. 9. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea
Abstract : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction. In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals). 10. Ventricular Long Axis Function: Amplitudes and Timings : Echocardiographic Studies in Health and Disease
Abstract : Background: The ageing process not only increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) but also complicates its diagnosis and treatment. It is therefore important to understand the newer concepts of cardiovascular ageing physiology as well as methods of predicting the outcomes of therapeutic options available for the elderly with severe CAD.
