  1. 1. Efficient Full-Scale CFD for Ship Hydrodynamics

    Author : Michal Orych; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CFD; Self-propulsion; Ship; Verification; Uncertainty; Full-scale; Validation; Seakeeping; Energy-Saving Device; Roughness; RANS;

    Abstract : An efficient numerical approach for ship hydrodynamics, involving a hybrid free-surface potential flow/RANS method, is explored. The work focuses on estimating the delivered power of ships in calm water and in waves, highlighting the benefits of full-scale simulations, particularly for ships with Energy Saving Devices. 2. 2. Dynamic effects on yacht sails and rudders

    Author : Adam Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; Sailing dynamics; towing tank; sail aerodynamics; rudder; verification; validation; RANS;

    Abstract : In search of increased performance, modern sailing vessels are becoming more and more complex, introducing additional challenges in the design process. The dynamic behaviour of the vessel is of great importance to safe and efficient operation and thus needs to be accounted for when evaluating the performance. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Statistical Methods for Safety Validation of Automated Vehicles

    Author : Daniel Åsljung; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; performance evaluation; extreme value theory; Automotive; validation; automated vehicles; simulation; verification; automated driving systems;

    Abstract : Automated vehicles (AVs) are expected to bring safer and more convenient transport in the future. Consequently, before introducing AVs at scale to the general public, the required levels of safety should be shown with evidence. However, statistical evidence generated by brute force testing using safety drivers in real traffic does not scale well. READ MORE

  4. 4. CFD Predictions Including Verification and Validation of Hydrodynamic Forces and Moments on Ships in Restricted Waters

    Author : Lu Zou; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RANS; deep water; shallow water; ship-to-ship interaction; bank effects; tanker hulls; canal; verification and validation; drift motion; hydrodynamic forces and moments;

    Abstract : The evaluation of ship manoeuvrability is of significance at the initial design stage, as inappropriate manoeuvring performance may result in unstable ship motion, difficulties in steering and even marine accidents. Restricted waters, with the presence of solid boundaries of the flow field, such as a shallow seabed below the hull, a side bank in the vicinity of the hull or another hull nearby, complicate the flow field and introduce an influence on hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on the hull.
