  1. 1. Mechanisms for and consequences of cellular lipid accumulation - Role of the Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) receptor

    Author : Jeanna Perman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : very low density lipoprotein receptor; lipid accumulation;

    Abstract : Lipid accumulation in non adipose tissue is associated with various cases of tissue dysfunction and tissue failure. Reduced availability of oxygen is known to cause intracellular lipid accumulation in cardiomyocytes as well as in hearts. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cellular immune responses to low density lipoprotein in atherosclerosis

    Author : Andreas Hermansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease of the medium and large sized arterial vessels. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) particles carrying cholesterol are trapped within the arterial intima and elicit both innate as well as adaptive immune responses. READ MORE

  3. 3. Platelet-activating factor and lysophospatidylcholine in oxidized low density lipoprotein-mediated immune activation

    Author : Yihui Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : atherosclerosis; oxidized LDL; platelet-activating factor PAF ; Iysophosphatidylcholine LPC ; anti-MHC class II antibodies; antibody; T cells; cytokine; IFN-[gamma]; IL-6; IL-4; TNF-[alpha]; a PAF specific receptor antagonist-WEB2170;

    Abstract : Inflammation is a risk factor for development of cardiovascular disease, as in addition to known risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking and diabetes. Patients with inflammatory diseases including SLE have an enhanced risk of cardiovascular disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assembly and Secretion of Atherogenic Lipoproteins

    Author : Caroline Beck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : very low-density lipoprotein; ; apolipoprotein B100; ; B-cell receptor associated; microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; ; secretion; assembly;

    Abstract : The classical dyslipidemia seen in patients with type 2 diabetes is characterized by elevated serum triglycerides (TG), low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the appearance of small, dense low-density lipoproteins (LDL). It is now recognized that the different components of diabetic dyslipidemia are not isolated abnormalities but are closely linked to each other metabolically, and are initiated by the hepatic overproduction of large triglyceride-rich very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL1). 5. 5. Macrophage Activation and AP-1 in Atherosclerosis

    Author : Maria Stollenwerk; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Cardiovascular system; carotid plaque; interleukin-1b; caspase-1.; very low-density lipoprotein; fatty acids; activator protein-1; inflammation; Atherosclerosis; nuclear factor-kB; macrophages; tumor necrosis factor;

    Abstract : High levels of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and intermediate density lipoprotein (IDL) have been identified as independent risk factors for coronary heart disease. Hypertriglyceridemia is generally associated with an increased expression of inflammatory makers and inflammation is thought to contribute to atherosclerosis and its complications. READ MORE
