1. Exploring Palladium-Mediated 11C/12C-Carbonylation Reactions : PET Tracer Development Targeting the Vesicular Acetylcholine Transporter
Abstract : The work presented herein describes the utilization and exploration of palladium-mediated incorporations of carbon monoxide and/or [11C]carbon monoxide into compounds and structural motifs with biological relevance. The first part of the thesis describes the design, synthesis and 11C-labeling of prospective PET tracers for the vesicular acetylcholine transporter (VAChT), a target affected in several neurodegenerative diseases. 2. Early life experiences and alcohol use in youth : An emerging role of the Vesicular Glutamate Transporters
Abstract : Initiation of alcohol consumption usually takes place during adolescence, a period characterized by a plethora of physical and emotional changes. Towards early adulthood, hazardous drinking patterns can emerge and potentially lead to the development of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). READ MORE

3. Analytical Approaches to Study Vesicular and Exosomal Release
Abstract : Vesicles, as a special type of entity nanometers in size, are crucial for survival of multicellular organisms. Intracellular vesicles mainly contain specific signaling molecules, transmitters, and modulators whereas extracellular vesicles (EVs) are bioactive organelles carrying a wide range of proteins, genetic materials, and other molecules. 4. Novel roles of ErbB3 receptor tyrosine kinase in vesicular trafficking
Abstract : ErbB3 is a catalytically impaired receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) from the EGFR family. Upon ligand binding, ErbB3 forms heterodimers with other members of the family and triggers phosphorylation cascades that promote crucial cellular functions as proliferation, differentiation and survival. 5. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development
Abstract : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation.
