1. Losing the plot : architecture and narrativity in fin-de siècle media cultures
Abstract : This thesis investigates the role of the term plot in mediating relations between architecture and narrativity. Examining organisational strategies in the creation of real and virtual spaces, it identifies literary works by novelists who have resisted, or subverted, plot conventions in fiction (Joris-Karl Huysmans, Edmond de Goncourt, Xavier de Maistre and Neal Stephenson), and introduces architectural spaces such as Thomas Edison’s film-studio Black Maria, and the plotless productions of early cinematography, to juxtapose concepts of plot and spatiality in a study of the production and consumption of pre-digital virtual spaces. 2. Virtual worlds and social interaction design
Abstract : This dissertation is a study of social interaction in virtual worlds and virtual world design. A virtual world is a synchronous, multi-user system that offers a persistent spatial environment for iconically represented participants. Together, these form an example of social interaction design. 3. Applications of Finite Element Simulation and Mixed Reality in Architecture and Built Environment
Abstract : This thesis presents applications in architecture and built environment that are based on the finite element method and mixed reality. The work consists of two main components: two projects presented in three papers. The first project (presented in Paper I) concerns an application in urban design, thus built environment on a larger scale. READ MORE

4. Multi-View Reconstruction and Camera Recovery using a Real or Virtual Reference Plane
Abstract : Reconstructing a 3-dimensional scene from a set of2-dimensional images is a fundamental problem in computervision. A system capable of performing this task can be used inmany applications in robotics, architecture, archaeology, biometrics, human computer interaction and the movie andentertainment industry.
