1. Integrated strength grading
Abstract : This work comprises strength grading for structural timber according to European standards and prediction of grade-determining properties by various technologies and in various stages of the sawmilling process. The detection technologies applied on logs were outer shape scanning, laser scattering, x-ray scanning and resonance analysis. READ MORE

2. Modelling the Variability of Bending Strength in Structural Timber - Length and Load Configuration Effects
Abstract : The load carrying capacity of a beam of structural timber is dependent both on the span of the beam and the type of loading. The longer the beam and the more uniform the moment distribution, the lower the load carrying capacity. This phenomenon is due to the variability of material properties within a piece of timber. 3. Development of methods and strategies for optimisation of x-ray examinations
Abstract : The overall aim of the work presented in this thesis was to develop methods and strategies for the optimisation process prescribed by legal authorities for medical X-ray imaging. This overall aim was divided into four detailed aims: 1) to analyse and describe the conditions for the optimisation of a given projectional X-ray examination in a digital environment, 2) to develop an overall strategy for the optimisation work in a radiology department, 3) to develop and implement a suitable method for statistical analysis of visual grading characteristics (VGC) data, and, 4) to evaluate the characteristics of the new statistical method by comparison with receiver operating characteristics (ROC) statistical methodology and by simulations. 4. Effects of nonlinear noise reduction algorithms on image quality in computed tomography systems. Evaluations using human observers and methods for assessing distortion
Abstract : Many conventional radiological examinations have during the past decades been replaced by examinations performed on computed tomography (CT) systems. One reason is that a CT system, in contrast to a conventional X-ray system, depicts slices of the body so that anatomical structures to a lesser extent risk to obscure the potential pathology. 5. Applications of Deep Learning in Medical Image Analysis : Grading of Prostate Cancer and Detection of Coronary Artery Disease
Abstract : A wide range of medical examinations are using analysis of images from different types of equipment. Using artificial intelligence, the assessments could be done automatically. READ MORE
