  1. 16. Functional understanding of space : Representing spatial knowledge using concepts grounded in an agent's purpose

    Author : Kristoffer Sjöö; Patric Jensfelt; David Vernon; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spatial representation; autonomous robots; spatial understanding; semantic mapping; spatial relations; visual search; robot search;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the role of function in representations of space by robots - that is, dealing directly and explicitly with those aspects of space and objects in space that serve some purpose for the robot. It is suggested that taking function into account helps increase the generality and robustness of solutions in an unpredictable and complex world, and the suggestion is affirmed by several instantiations of functionally conceived spatial models. 2. 17. Lifelong Visual Localization for Automated Vehicles

    Author : Peter Mühlfellner; Thorsteinn Rögnvaldsson; Roland Philippsen; Tom Duckett; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vision-based localization; automated vehicles;

    Abstract : Automated driving can help solve the current and future problems of individualtransportation. Automated valet parking is a possible approach to help with overcrowded parking areas in cities and make electric vehicles more appealing. In an automated valet system, drivers are able to drop off their vehicle close to a parking area. READ MORE

  3. 18. Robust Estimation of Motion Parameters and Scene Geometry : Minimal Solvers and Convexification of Regularisers for Low-Rank Approximation

    Author : Marcus Valtonen Örnhag; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Vision; Visual Odometry; Simultaneous Localization and Mapping; minimal solvers; Convex relaxations; Structure from motion;

    Abstract : In the dawning age of autonomous driving, accurate and robust tracking of vehicles is a quintessential part. This is inextricably linked with the problem of Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM), in which one tries to determine the position of a vehicle relative to its surroundings without prior knowledge of them. 4. 19. From Human to Robot Grasping

    Author : Javier Romero; Danica Kragic; Jana Kosecka; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; computer vision; hand tracking; hand pose estimation; human-to-robot mapping; robotics; grasping; modeling; human action modeling; dimensionality reduction; taxonomy; corrective movements; visual servoing;

    Abstract : Imagine that a robot fetched this thesis for you from a book shelf. How doyou think the robot would have been programmed? One possibility is thatexperienced engineers had written low level descriptions of all imaginabletasks, including grasping a small book from this particular shelf. READ MORE

  5. 20. On Visual Perception for an Aerial Robotic Worker

    Author : Christoforos Kanellakis; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reglerteknik; Control Engineering;

    Abstract : Micro Aerial Vehicles and especially multi rotors are gaining more and more attention for accomplishing complex tasks, considering their simple mechanical design and their versatile movement. MAVs are ideal candidates to perform tasks autonomously, to work safely in close proximity and in collaboration with humans, and to operate safely and effectively in natural human environments, like infrastructure inspection-maintenance, underground mine operations and surveillance missions.
