  1. 1. Structural pathology and functional analysis of vitamin K-dependent protein S

    Author : Tusar K Giri; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; C4b-binding protein; Protein S; blood coagulation; thrombosis; natural mutations; in vitro characterization.; Immunology; transplantation; serologi; Immunologi; serology;

    Abstract : Protein S deficiency is an autosomal dominant trait affecting around 10% of families thrombophilic families. The high affinity interaction of approximately 60% of protein S with C4b -binding protein (C4BP) has raised a complicated situation for the diagnosis of deficiency states. READ MORE

  2. 2. Vascular mechanisms in dementia with special reference to folate and fibrinolysis

    Author : Nils-Olof Hagnelius; Torbjörn K. Nilsson; Teodoro Bottiglieri; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; vascular dementia; folate; homocysteine; vitamin B12; CSF Serum folate ratio; fibrinolysis; tPA; PAI-1; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrik; Geriatrics; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study the biomarker homocysteine and other novel potential vascular risk factors for dementia. In an out-patient based study of a cohort of 926 consecutive subjects referred to our Memory Unit during 1996―2000, serum-folate was lower and total plasma homocysteine (tHcy) and serum methyl malonate were higher in subjects being prescribed with B12. 3. 3. Injectable calcium sulphate and calcium phosphate bone substitutes

    Author : Malin K Nilsson; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; ortopedi; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; resorbable; hydroxyapatite; bone substitute; calcium phosphate; injectable; calcium sulphate;

    Abstract : Two formulations of biphasic injectable bone substitutes have been developed for the treatment of bone defects and stabilisation of fragility fractures. The first formulation consists of a calcium sulphate matrix with embedded hydroxyapatite (HA) particles to provide osteoconductivity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Direct and phagocyte-mediated lipid peroxidation of lung surfactant by group B streptococci and other bacteria : protective effect of antioxidants

    Author : Rabea K L Bouhafs; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Abstract : Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), caused by surfactant deficiency, is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in preterm neonates. Further, infants with systemic neonatal infection or pneumonia often have signs of RDS. READ MORE

    Abstract : Background: Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, are the leading cause of illness and death and constitute a significant part of the disease burden in Sweden and Western Europe. Age, hypertension, smoking, obesity, dyslipoproteinemia, diabetes, and impaired renal function are considered established risk factors for CVD. READ MORE
