  1. 1. Enhancement of Volatile Fatty Acid Production from Dairy Wastewater

    Author : Merve Atasoy; Zeynep Cetecioglu; Juan Lema; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Volatile fatty acid; mixed culture fermentation; pure culture; bioaugmentation; bacterial community; Flyktiga fettsyror; jäsning med blandkultur; renkultur; bioaugmentering; bakteriesamhälle; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Resource recovery from waste-streams is a highly promising approach to meet with urbanization and modernization consequences. Rapid human population growth, expanding industrialization and excessive consumption of resources lead to increasing demand for raw materials and energy sources, and an escalation of greenhouse gas emission. 2. 2. Methane and Volatile Fatty Acids Production from Toxic Substrate

    Author : - Lukitawesa; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; toxic substrate; methane; volatile fatty acid; anaerobic digestion; membrane bioreactor; factor; tubular membrane; two-stage digestion; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Challenges caused by climate change and global warming have created a demand for improvements in resource recovery and the promotion of a circular economy. Waste management is one such challenge for which more recycling options are required for producing materials and energy sources from wastes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Unlocking Sustainability in Wastewater Denitrification through Waste-Derived Volatile Fatty Acids

    Author : Tugba Sapmaz; Mohammad J Taherzadeh; Eric D. Van Hullebusch; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; volatile fatty acids; wastewater denitrification; ammonium removal; sustainable carbon source; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Carbon sources play a critical role in biological nitrogen removal during wastewater treatment, where strict total nitrogen limits on effluent discharge apply. Organic carbon sources serve as electron donors in the denitrification for heterotrophic denitrifiers. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thermally cured coil-coatings utilizing novel resins and fatty acid methyl esters as reactive diluents

    Author : Katarina Johansson; Mats Johansson; Rolf van Benthem; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coatings; Coil-coatings; Thermal cure; Reactive diluents; Fatty acids; Transesterification; Hyperbranched polyester resins; Film properties; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coating resins contain large amounts of volatile organic solvents in order to obtain suitable flow for film application. This work describes how the expensive and environmental hazardous volatile organic solvent content of a solvent-borne thermally cured polyester/melamine coil-coating system can be reduced by introduction of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) as reactive diluents and modification of the polyester binder resin. 5. 5. Engineering short-chain carboxylic-acid metabolism in the model microorganism Escherichia coli

    Author : Gustav Sjöberg; Antonius J. A. van Maris; Solange Mussatto; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metabolic engineering; R -3-hydroxybutyrate; volatile fatty acids; bioprocess design; Escherichia coli; bacterial artificial chromosome; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : The ever-increasing concern about carbon dioxide emissions has created an urgent need to develop alternative methods to cheaply and renewably produce materials, chemicals and fuels. The biorefinery is uniquely suited to deliver these products from sustainable biomass. READ MORE
