  2. 12. Unlocking Sustainability in Wastewater Denitrification through Waste-Derived Volatile Fatty Acids

    Author : Tugba Sapmaz; Mohammad J Taherzadeh; Eric D. Van Hullebusch; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; volatile fatty acids; wastewater denitrification; ammonium removal; sustainable carbon source; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Carbon sources play a critical role in biological nitrogen removal during wastewater treatment, where strict total nitrogen limits on effluent discharge apply. Organic carbon sources serve as electron donors in the denitrification for heterotrophic denitrifiers. READ MORE

  3. 13. Emissions of volatile organic compounds from wood

    Author : Karin Granström; Bengt Månsson; Ann-Margret Strömvall; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VOC; terpenes; drying; wood; emissions; spouted bed; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : The central aim of this thesis is to support the efforts to counteract certain environmental problems caused by emissions of volatile organic compounds. The purpose of this work was (1) to develop a method to establish the amount of emitted substances from dryers, (2) to determine the effect of drying medium temperature and end moisture content of the processed material on emissions of monoterpenes and other hydrocarbons, (3) to examine the emissions of monoterpenes during production of pellets, and (4) to examine the natural emissions from forests with an eye to implications for modelling. 4. 14. Low-Temperature Oxidation of CO and Volatile Organic Compounds over Supported Platinum Catalysts

    Author : Karl Arnby; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hexamethyldisiloxane; alumina; catalytic deactivation; environmental catalysis; platinum; volatile organic compounds; carbon monoxide; low-temperature activity;

    Abstract : The catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) and volatile organic compounds (VOC) is important for the reduction of harmful emissions from both vehicles and from stationary sources. Both these applications suffer from poor catalytic efficiency at lower temperatures. READ MORE

  5. 15. Volatile Fatty Acids as a Key to Sustainability and Circularity in Polyhydroxyalkanoates Production

    Author : Hoang Danh Vu; Dan Åkesson; Pau-Loke Show; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bioplastics; food waste; polyhydroxyalkanoates; volatile fatty acids; immersed membrane bioreactor; acidogenic fermentation; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : The negative consequences of plastic pollution on both environmental and socio-economic aspects have motivated the development of sustainable and renewable materials to replace the petroleum-based plastic. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), which are bioplastics, having an outstanding biodegradability and rather comparable thermal and mechanical properties, are potential alternatives for the replacement of conventional plastics.
