1. The interplay of ions in the stimulation of the pancreatic -cell
Abstract : Glucose stimulation of insulin release is mediated by depolarisation of the pancreatic β-cells with accompanying entry of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent channels. An important feature of the glucose-induced depolarisation is its rhythmicity causing oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), which trigger pulsatile release of insulin. 2. Studies of individual pancreatic -cells : Electrophysiological analysis of rhythmic behaviour and development of new techniques
Abstract : The insulin concentration in blood varies periodically, which is believed to prevent down-regulation of the hormone receptors. Loss of the regular insulin oscillations is considered to be an early sign of developing diabetes. READ MORE

3. Apoptosis And Excitotoxicity In The Death of Cultured And Grafted Dopaminergic Neurones
Abstract : Over the past two decades, grafting of embryonic nigral tissue has developed into a feasible therapeutic strategy for Parkinson's disease (PD). It has become apparent that the degree of restoration of dopaminergic neurotransmission by the transplanted cells is highly correlated to the symptomatic relief. READ MORE

4. Signal Transduction of Glucagon Secretion
Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a bihormonal disorder with hyperglycemia due to deficiency of insulin and hypersecretion of glucagon. To improve diabetes treatment it is important to clarify the signal transduction of glucagon secretion. READ MORE

5. Host-parasite interactions in the dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii
Abstract : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects virtually all warm-blooded organisms. Systemic dissemination of T. gondii in the organism can cause life-threatening infection that manifests as Toxoplasma encephalitis in immune-compromised patients. READ MORE
