  1. 1. The Role of Kidney Oxygen Homeostasis for the Development of Kidney Disease

    Author : Carla Carvalho; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Malou Friederich; Jenny Nyström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oxygen; Kidney mitochondria; Hypoxia-inducible factors; Prolyl hydroxylase; von Hippel-Lindau; Diabetes; Aging; Kidney; Sodium; RAAS; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : The relation between oxygen supply and demand determines tissue oxygen tension (PO2). When intrarenal tissue PO2 decreases, any compensatory increase in oxygen supply via increased renal blood flow is likely to increase glomerular filtration rate. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sceletal muscle characteristics and physical activity patterns in COPD

    Author : Gabriella Eliason; Karin Phiel Aulin; Lundberg Ingrid; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; muscle morphology; muscle fibre distribution; muscle capillarization; physical activity; von Hippel-Lindau protein; exercise capacity; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN; Sports; Idrott; Idrottsvetenskap; Sports Science;

    Abstract : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Besides abnormities within the respiratory system COPD is also associated with effects outside the lungs, so called systemic effects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prognostic factors in renal cell carcinoma : evaluation of erythropoietin and its receptor, carbonic anhydrase IX, parathyroid hormone-related protein and osteopontin

    Author : Karin Papworth; Torgny Rasmuson; Börje Ljungberg; Kjell Grankvist; Sten Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Renal cell carcinoma; EPO; EPO-R; CA IX; PTHrP; OPN; prognosis; Oncology; Onkologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Abstract : A prognostic factor is a marker or a feature that can be used to estimate the risk of recurrence of disease, metastatic spread and clinical outcome. Despite intensive search for more sophisticated markers in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), few have added prognostic information to earlier described factors like stage of disease, nuclear grade, tumour type, and in metastatic disease; performance status, anaemia, hypercalcaemia and increased erythrocyte sedimentation. 4. 4. Analysis of HIF-1alpha degradation and function

    Author : Helder André; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha; protein degradation; prolyl hydroxylases; adenoassociated virus; gene therapy; angiogenesis.;

    Abstract : HIF-1 is a heterodimeric complex of two bHLH/PAS transcription factors, HIF- 1alpha and ANRT. In contrast to the constitutively expressed ARNT, HIF-1alpha protein levels are regulated by oxygen tension. Under normoxic conditions, HIF-1alpha is rapidly degraded by the ubiquitinproteasome pathway. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular Genetic Studies of Sporadic and MEN1-Associated Endocrine Pancreatic Tumors

    Author : Daniel Lindberg; Gunnar Westin; Göran Åkerström; Bo Wängberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; pancreatic endocrine tumor; MEN1; LOH; WNT7A; HDAC11; CDK4; CDKN2B p15; CDKN1B p27; CDKN2C p18; c-Myc; Smad4; pyrosequencing; epigenetic; methylation; tumor suppressor; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Pancreatic endocrine tumors (PETs) may cause typical syndromes of hormone excess, or appear clinically non-functioning without hormonal symptoms. PETs occur sporadically, in association with the multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) syndrome, or rarely the von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. READ MORE
