  1. 16. Towards Accurate Numerical Methods for Ship Flows on Composite Overlapping Grids

    Author : Lars Carlsson; [2002]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer; wake; incompressible flow; Navier-Stokes; composite overlapping grids; grid generation; ship flow; parallel computing; alternating-direction implicit; line-implicit;

    Abstract : Numerical methods are presented that are designed to make accurate ship-flow computations more feasible. One method concerns the automatic generation of high-quality computational grids. It treats the grids as competing individuals in a population, where an individual's fitness is based on a measure of grid quality. READ MORE

  2. 17. Marine Current Energy Conversion

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Staffan Lundin; Mats Leijon; AbuBakr S. Bahaj; [2016]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; marine current energy; renewable energy; turbine; energy conversion; wake; Söderfors; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : Marine currents, i.e. water currents in oceans and rivers, constitute a large renewable energy resource. This thesis presents research done on the subject of marine current energy conversion in a broad sense. READ MORE

  3. 18. Numerical Study of Fluid-Structure Interaction with Application to Oscillating Cylinders

    University dissertation from Mikhail Lazarkov, Magistratsvagen F55, 204, Lund

    Author : Mikhail Lazarkov; [2004]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lock-in.; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; synchronization; flow-induced vibration; LES; Volume of Solid method; Virtual Boundary method; vortex-shedding; confined cylinder; Fluid-structure interaction; wake;

    Abstract : The problem of fluid-structure interaction, occurring in many industrial and engineering applications, are of great importance, since interaction of a flow and a structure in it can lead to serious damages of the structure. The fluid-structure interaction gives rise to a variety of different physical phenomena such as flow-induced vibration, noise generation, etc. READ MORE

  4. 19. On Turbulence Modelling for Bilge Vortices: A Test of Eight Models for Three Cases

    University dissertation from Mikhail Lazarkov, Magistratsvagen F55, 204, Lund

    Author : Urban Svennberg; [2001]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wake; turbulence modelling; nonlinear eddy-viscosity model; bilge vortices; ship flow; jet; Navier-Stokes equation; two-equation model; Reynolds stress model; vortex;

    Abstract : This work is a test, in three steps, of turbulence models for the calculation of the flow field around ships. Eight models ranging from k-e and k-w models to a Reynolds-stress model (RSM) are tested. READ MORE

  5. 20. The Neurological Wake-up Test in Neurocritical Care

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Karin Skoglund; Niklas Marklund; Per Enblad; Tiit Mathiesen; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intracranial pressure; Cerebral perfusion pressure; Propofol sedation; Wake-up test; stress hormones; intracerebral microdialysis; brain tissue oxygenation; jugular venous oxygenation; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Abstract : The neurological wake-up test, NWT, is a clinical monitoring tool that can be used to evaluate the level of consciousness in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) during neurocritical care (NCC). Since patients with severe TBI or SAH are often treated with mechanical ventilation and sedation, the NWT requires that the continuous sedation is interrupted. READ MORE
