    Abstract : This manuscript focuses on the relationship between coal and the history of the over 300,000 Italian miners who moved to Wallonia, Belgium, from 1946 onwards, in accordance to the State agreement between Italy and Belgium known as “men in exchange for coal.” Notably, I use environmental history of migration to analyze what I define as “the metabolism of coal. 2. 2. Contributions to motion planning and orbital stabilization : case studies: Furuta pendulum swing up, inertia wheel oscillations and biped robot walking

    Author : Pedro Xavier Miranda La Hera; Anton Shiriaev; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Under-actuated Systems; Orbital Exponential Stability; Motion Planning; Virtual Constraints; Walking robots; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : Generating and stabilizing periodic motions in nonlinear systems is a challenging task. In the control system community this topic is also known as limit cycle control. In recent years a framework known as Virtual Holonomic Constraints (VHC) has been developed as one of the solutions to this problem. READ MORE

  3. 3. By foot at ease : environmental affordances for wellbeing in walking

    Author : Thomas Höjemo; Beatriz Fedrizzi; Anna-Johanna Klasander; Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Walking has been shown to provide benefits for our health and also for the environment. Research has also shown that if the built environment is adapted for pedestrians, people walk more. However, there is a lack of qualitative research in architecture and urban design on walking at the micro (streetscape) scale. READ MORE

  4. 4. Measurement and perception of sound insulation from 20 Hz between dwellings

    Author : Rikard Öqvist; Fredrik Ljunggren; Roger Johnsson; Anders Ågren; Berndt Zeitler; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : Population growth and urbanization are projected by the United Nations to add 2,5 billionpeople to the world’s urban population by 2050. We need to construct buildings in anunprecedented scale to meet global housing demand. Sustainable development is critical. READ MORE

  5. 5. Identification of principal chemical subsets of biofuel combustion : Ants walking in renewable fire

    Author : Christoffer Pichler; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reduced kinetic models; Biofuel; n-Heptane; Alcohols; Ant-Colony Reduction; Combustion chemistry; Fysicumarkivet A:2020:Pichler;

    Abstract : The work in this thesis was carried out to highlight important chemical pathways in skeletal mechanisms for the three smallest alcohol fuels (methanol, ethanol and npropanol), two representative fuel alkanes n-heptane and n-decane, and finally the biodiesel surrogates, methyl-decanoate, methyl-5-decenoate, and methyl-9-decenoate. This aim was set up to further the efforts of creating Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) suitable mechanisms, which in turn can be used by the industry to improve, for example, engines or gas turbines, or by academia to further understand turbulent combustion.
