  1. 1. Experiments and modelling of fracture initiation at impact

    Author : Ola Wall; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vibration and acoustic engineering; vacuum technology; hydraulics; Viscoplasticity; Mechanical engineering; Ductile; Brittle; Dynamic; Fracture; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Abstract : The thesis addresses different questions, each necessary in the understanding of dynamic fracture initiation and crack propagation in steel. Emphasis lays on dynamic crack propagation experiments performed in the ductile to brittle transition region and possible conclusions, that can be drawn from them. READ MORE

  2. 2. Feasibility and efficacy of incorporating an exoskeleton in gait training during subacute stroke rehabilitation

    Author : Anneli Wall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Introduction: Hemiparesis is the most common acute manifestation of stroke and often has a strong negative impact on walking ability leaving one third of patients dependent in walking activities outside one’s home. Improved methods for training of gait during stroke rehabilitation could tackle the challenge of achieving independent walking and promote better outcomes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Some new results concerning general weighted regular Sturm-Liouville problems

    Author : Mervis Kikonko; Lars-Erik Persson; Peter Wall; Angelo B. Mingarelli; Alexey Karapetyants; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Partial differential equations; Sturm-Liouville problem; Right-definite; left-definite; non-definite; indefinite; Dirichlet problem; spectrum; eigenvalues; non-real eigenvalues; Richardson number; Richardson index; turning point; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : In this PhD thesis we study some weighted regular Sturm-Liouville problems in which the weight function takes on both positive and negative signs in an appropriate interval [a,b]. With such  problems there is the possible existence of non-real eigenvalues, unlike in the definite case (i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Homogenization of Some Selected Elliptic and Parabolic Problems Employing Suitable Generalized Modes of Two-Scale Convergence

    Author : Jens Persson; Anders Holmbom; Liselott Flodén; Marianne Lindberg; Mårten Gulliksson; Peter Wall; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; H-convergence; G-convergence; homogenization; multiscale analysis; two-scale convergence; multiscale convergence; elliptic partial differential equations; parabolic partial differential equations; monotone operators; heterogeneous media; non-periodic media; Mathematical analysis; Analys;

    Abstract : The present thesis is devoted to the homogenization of certain elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations by means of appropriate generalizations of the notion of two-scale convergence. Since homogenization is defined in terms of H-convergence, we desire to find the H-limits of sequences of periodic monotone parabolic operators with two spatial scales and an arbitrary number of temporal scales and the H-limits of sequences of two-dimensional possibly non-periodic linear elliptic operators by utilizing the theories for evolution-multiscale convergence and λ-scale convergence, respectively, which are generalizations of the classical two-scale convergence mode and custom-made to treat homogenization problems of the prescribed kinds. Author : Evgeniya Burtseva; Natasha Samko; Lars-Erik Persson; Peter Wall; Alexey Karapetyants; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This Licentiate thesis is devoted to the study of mapping properties of different operators (Hardy type, singular and potential) between various function spaces.The main body of the thesis consists of five papers and an introduction, which puts these papers into a more general frame.
