  1. 1. Annular Motion : Assessment of Cardiac Function using Echocardiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Lena Lindström; Otto Smiseth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This thesis concentrates on the assessment of cardiac function, both systolic and diastolic using variables originating from the longitudinal motion of the heart using both established and novel non-invasive imaging techniques. We developed a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that creates an M-mode MRI image, analogous to the one used in echocardiography and enables quantitative assessment of cardiac motion. 2. 2. Multidimensional MRI of Cardiac Motion : Acquisition, Reconstruction and Visualization

    Author : Andreas Sigfridsson; Hans Knutsson; Stefan Skare; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MRI; cardiac; motion; reconstruction; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Abstract : Methods for measuring deformation and motion of the human heart in-vivo are crucial in the assessment of cardiac function. Applications ranging from basic physiological research, through early detection of disease to follow-up studies, all benefit from improved methods of measuring the dynamics of the heart. READ MORE

  3. 3. Homogenization of some new mathematical models in lubrication theory

    Author : Afonso Fernando Tsandzana; Peter Wall; Lars- Erik Persson; John Fabricius; Anders Holmbom; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lubrication theory; homogenization theory; Reynolds equation; cavitation; surfaces roughness; Stokes equation; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : We consider mathematical modeling of thin film flow between two rough surfaces which are in relative motion. For example such flows take place in different kinds of bearings and gears when a lubricant is used to reduce friction and wear between the surfaces. READ MORE

  4. 4. On pressure-driven Hele-Shaw flow

    Author : Salvador Manjate; Peter Wall; John Fabricius; Johan Byström; Niklas Lundström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Mathematics; Tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : The present licentiate thesis is devoted to the rigorous derivation of the equations governing thin-film flow of incompressible Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. More precisely, we consider flow in a generalized Hele-Shaw cell, which is a thin three-dimensional domain confined between two surfaces connected by cylindrical obstacles of various shapes. 5. 5. On Turbulent Wall Jets

    Author : Hans Abrahamsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-preservation; similarity theory; scaling laws; local flow reversals; high turbulence levels; turbulent kinetic energy budget; two-dimensional; turbulent; hot-wire anemometry; wall jet; three-dimensional; pulsed hot-wire anemometry;

    Abstract : An experimental investigation of the two- and three-dimensional turbulent wall jets has been conducted. The measurements have been performed using different hot-wire techniques in large scale wall jet facilities, and the measurements were focused on the fully-developed region of the flow. READ MORE
