  1. 1. Bioaccessibility, corrosion and surface properties of metals, alloys and metallic powder in biological fluids of relevance for occupational and consumer health hazard assessment

    Author : Xuying Wang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Yolanda S. Hedberg; Lars Nyborg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metal and alloy; metal release; synthetic biological fluids; surface oxide; corrosion resistance; hazard assessment; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : When assessing hazards of metals, alloys, and metal-containing items, the metal release (bioaccessibility) is of high importance. Triggered by increasingly stricter hazard classifications for metals, especially cobalt (Co), and limited knowledge, the aim of this doctoral thesis is to assess correlations between the metal/alloy surface characteristics, corrosion and metal release pattern in different simulated biological fluids relevant to human exposure scenarios (dermal, ingestion and inhalation, Papers I-V). 2. 2. Mini-Jet Production in Proton-Antiproton Interactions and Particle Production in Heavy-Ion Collisions

    Author : Haiqiao Wang; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proton antiproton interaction; Quark-gluon plasma; dynamical fluctuation; intermittency; limiting fragmentation; intranuclear cascading; target fragmentation; heavy-ion collision; image processing; mini-jet; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Wang;

    Abstract : The thesis is based on the data analysis and detector development of the EMU01/CERN, E863/BNL and UA1/CERN experiments. Particle fluctuations are studied with the scaled factorial moments in the fragmentation region of oxygen-induced emulsion interactions from 3.7 to 200 A GeV. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quantitative cellular methods in the evaluation of prostate cancer

    Author : Naining Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : prostate cancer; histopathology; nuclear morphology; DNA ploidy; S-phase fraction; thymidine kinas; Ki-67; cell proliferation; fluorescence cytometry; tissue PSA; prognosis;

    Abstract : The distinction between those prostate cancers rapidly progressing and leading to death and those with little likelihood of causing death in cancer is a major goal in current prostate cancer research. Morphological tumor characteristics at present are the basis for evaluation of the prognosis of the disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Study and Modeling of the Reduction of Sulfur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides and Hydrogen Chloride by Dry Injection Technologies

    Author : Wuyin Wang; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reaction kinetics; pore particle size; HCl; NOx; desulfurization; Ca-based sorbent; flue gas; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : The potential and mechanism to reduce acid gases, such as SO2, NOx and HCl by dry Ca-based sorbents have been studied to improve the efficiencies of the process and sorbent utilization. Several natural limestones were tested for SO2 removal. Calcium conversion as high as 45% was achieved within 0.3 s at 1000°C, 1000 ppm SO2 and Ca/S=1. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental Studies of Separated Flow and Heat Transfer in a Ribbed Channel

    Author : Lei Wang; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiforskning; plasma; Energy research; fluiddynamik; Gaser; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Gases; Particle image velocimetry; Liquid crystal thermography; ribbed channel; heat transfer; turbulence properties; separated flow; coherent structures;

    Abstract : The main concern of this thesis is to experimentally investigate the turbulent flow and heat transfer in a ribbed channel. Such flows are encountered in many engineering applications, e.g., gas turbine cooling. READ MORE
