  1. 1. Characterization of soot in air and rain over southern Asia

    Author : Erik J. Engström; Caroline Leck; Henning Rodhe; Paolo Laj; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soot; black carbon; atmospheric concentration; light absorption; wet deposition; scavenging; wash-out ratio; South-Asia.; Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences; Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Filter-based optical measurements of light absorbing particulate matter at awavelength of about 550 nm, here referred to as soot, in air and rainwaterhave been performed during the period from 1st June 2005 to 31th May 2009at Godavari in Nepal, Sinhagad in India and Hanimaadhoo in The Maldives.A method for determination of water-insoluble light absorbing matter inrainwater has been developed. 2. 2. Atmospheric transport of persistent organic pollutants to aquatic ecosystems

    Author : Cecilia Agrell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Temperature; Latitude; Deposition; PCB; Baltic Sea; Ekologi;

    Abstract : The load of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is considered high in the Baltic ecosystem. The Baltic Sea spans over 12 latitudes and the regional differences in climate affect the behavior of POPs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging of the breast : imaging features for diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer

    Author : Botond K Szabo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Breast neoplasm; magnetic resonance imaging; prognostic factors; survival analysis; image segmentation; artificial neural networks;

    Abstract : The general aim of the present thesis was to identify and study dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) features that contribute to the diagnosis and may help in predicting prognosis in breast cancer. Study I studied the kinetic and morphological MR features and their diagnostic power were studied in a total of 92 women with 109 histopathologically verified breast lesions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in breast tumors

    Author : Ariel Saracco; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Contrast-enhanced ultrasound or CEUS is a combination of the pharmacokinetics of contrast agents (or microbubbles-based ultrasound contrast agents), the signal processing of these agents and the contrast-specific imaging modality. One of the main objectives of this method is to gather vascular information (from large vessels to capillaries) in different organs or tumors by increasing the signal intensity from blood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of radioligands for emission tomography imaging of dopamine D1 and benzodiazepine receptors

    Author : Christian Foged; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dopamine D1 receptors; Benzodiazepine BZ receptors; PET; SPECT.Stoc;

    Abstract : Brain imaging of dopamine and benzodiazepine (BZ) receptors in vivo is of central interest in neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizoprenia, Huntington's disease and epilepsy. The objective was to develop new radioligands for emission tomography of dopamine D1 and BZ receptors. READ MORE
