  1. 1. Bayesian Phylogenetics and the Evolution of Gall Wasps

    Author : Johan A. A. Nylander; Fredrik Ronquist; Sydney A. Cameron; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Bayesian analysis; Bayes factors; Cynipidae; gall wasps; MCMC; model averaging; model selection; phylogeny; total evidence; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the phylogenetic relationships and the evolution of the gall-inducing wasps belonging to the family Cynipidae. Several previous studies have used morphological data to reconstruct the evolution of the family. READ MORE

  2. 2. From Parasitoids to Gall Inducers and Inquilines : Morphological Evolution in Cynipoid Wasps

    Author : Hege Vårdal; Fredrik Ronquist; Göran Sahlén; Ulf Jondelius; Nunzio Isidoro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; gall inducer; parasitoid; inquiline; gall induction; morphology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : One of the large lineages of parasitic wasps, the Cynipoidea, exhibits three distinctly different life modes. Slightly more than half of the about 3000 species are parasitoids in insect larvae, whereas the remaining species are associated with plants, either as gall inducers or as inquilines (guests feeding on plant tissue in galls). 5. 5. Bees and wasps (Aculeata) in young boreal forests

    Author : Per Westerfelt; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In Sweden, forest stands younger than 15 years constitute more than 10% of the total forest area. The aims of the research described in this thesis were to investigate how bees and wasps (Aculeata) use young boreal forests as nesting and feeding grounds. Aculeates are sun-loving creatures and do not thrive in closed forest stands. READ MORE
