  1. 21. Waste-Heat Recovery from Combustion Engines based on the Rankine Cycle

    Author : Gunnar Latz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rankine cycle; waste heat recovery; energy losses; energy efficiency; vehicle propulsion;

    Abstract : The majority of the energy in the fuel burned by the combustion engines used in modern vehicles is lost in the form of waste heat and does not contribute to the propulsion of the vehicle. Three different technologies have been proposed for recovering some of this lost heat and thereby increasing the overall efficiency of combustion engines: the turbocompound, thermoelectric converters, and heat engines based on the Rankine cycle. Abstract : Paper [I] investigates the energy efficiency of multi-dwelling buildings in Sweden to find out whether the ownership type matters. More specifically, we investigate whether rental apartment buildings are less energy efficient than cooperative apartment buildings and whether public ownership has a negative impact on energy efficiency. Abstract : The effects of greenhouse gas net emissions on global warming, stricter legislation on waste handling, and the pursuit of ever cheaper heat- and power production are all important factors driving the introduction of complex fuels in incineration plants. However - without fundamental knowledge regarding ash transformation, corrosion control, and materials selection – this introduction of potentially economically and environmentally beneficial fuels, might instead cause economic loss and environmentally adverse effects. 4. 24. Gasification and Pyrolysis Characterization and Heat Transfer Phenomena During Thermal Conversion of Municipal Solid Waste

    Author : Chunguang Zhou; Weihong Yang; Wlodzimierz Blasiak; Petr Stehlik; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; municipal solid waste; pyrolysis; gasification; heat transfer; CaO; CO2; reforming; numerical model; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The significant generation of municipal solid waste (MSW) has become a controversial global issue. Pyrolysis and gasification technologies for treating rejects from solid waste disposal sites (SWDSs), for which over 50 % of MSW is attributed to combustible species, have attracted considerable attention.
