  1. 1. Hydrological Transport in Shallow Catchments: : tracer discharge, travel time and water age

    Author : Sofie Safeyeh Soltani; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Bijan Dargahi; Jan Olof Selroos; Andrea Rinaldo; KTH; []
    Keywords : Hydrological transport; travel time; water age; tracer discharge; Lagrangian pathway approach; pathway lengths; numerical modeling; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : This focuses on hydrological transport in shallow catchments with topography-driven flow paths. The thesis gives new insight to kinematic pathway models for estimation of tracer discharge at the catchment outlet. READ MORE

  2. 2. Water transport through perinatal skin : Barrier function and aquaporin water channels

    Author : Johan Ågren; Gunnar Sedin; Gunnar Flemström; Steven B Hoath; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Preterm infant; Transepidermal water loss; Aquaporin; Skin biology; Hyperosmolarity; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : While constituting a well functioning interface with the aqueous environment in utero, the skin offers a poor barrier after very preterm birth. As a result, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is high, a fact which has important clinical consequences in these infants. READ MORE

  3. 3. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability

    Author : Robert Earon; Bo Olofsson; Okke Batelaan; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Crystalline Rock; Groundwater Balance; Kinematic porosity; Groundwater Recharge; Water Security; Coastal Aquifer; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. READ MORE

  4. 4. The importance of long axis function -an echocardiographic study with respect to ageing, response to treatment, prediction of survival and effect of warm water immersion

    Author : Bente Grüner Sveälv; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Echocardiography; Long axis function; Heart failure; Age; Dobutamine stress; Recover; Prognosis; Warm water immersion;

    Abstract : Echocardiographic M-mode measurement of atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) and determination of annular velocity with Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) is a reliable method to gauge ventricular long axis function for quantification of myocardial contractility and relaxation. The aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of the importance of long axis function with respect to ageing, response to pharmacological treatment, prediction of survival, and enhanced load condition caused by warm water immersion.
