  1. 16. Modelling Hydrological and Hydrodynamic Processes in Lake Tana Basin, Ethiopia

    Author : Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Bijan Dargahi; Nicola Fohrer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lake Tana; Climate Change; SWAT; Hydrological Modeling; Hydrodynamic; GEMSS; MCE; Streamflow; Sediment yield; Hydrology; Hydrologi; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Lake Tana Basin is of significant importance to Ethiopia concerning water resources aspects and the ecological balance of the area. The growing high demands in utilizing the high potentials of water resource of the Lake to its maximal limit, pictures a disturbing future for the Lake. READ MORE

  2. 17. Modeling flow and sediment transport in water bodies and watersheds

    Author : Muluneh Admass Mekonnen; Bijan Dargahi; Anders Wörman; Hans Bergh; Edward Buchak; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bed load transport model; ECOMSED; Hydrology; Hydrodynamics; Spectral Analysis; SWAT; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : The research focus is on the various modeling aspects of flow and sediment transport in water bodies and watersheds. The interaction of flow with a mobile bed involves a complex process in which various turbulent scales characterized by coherent structures cause a chaotic sediment motion. READ MORE

  3. 18. Groundwater-Seawater Interactions : Seawater Intrusion, Submarine Groundwater Discharge and Temporal Variability and Randomness Effects

    Author : Carmen Prieto; Georgia Destouni; Vassilios Kaleris; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; Seawater intrusion; submarine groundwater discharge; coastal groundwater management; coastal zone management; temporal variability; temporal randomness; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Fresh groundwater quality and availability in coastal areas is affected by seawater intrusion into coastal aquifers, and coastal water quality and ecosystem status may be significantly affected by groundwater pollutants that are transported into coastal waters by submarine groundwater dis-charge (SGD). This thesis uses an overall regional perspective for investigating: i) seawater intru-sion and its possible control in sustainable coastal groundwater management; ii) SGD and its relevant quantification as one interacting part among the diverse main regional pathways of freshwater and tracer/pollutant inputs from land to sea; and iii) the integrated system functioning of both i) and ii) as main components of the same coastal groundwater system. 4. 19. Recycling Filter Substrates used for Phosphorus Removal from Wastewater as Soil Amendments

    Author : Victor Cucarella Cabañas; Gunno Renman; Greg Morrison; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Compact filter; Filtra P; Phosphorus recycling; Polonite; Soil amendment; Sorption isotherms; Soil science; Markvetenskap; Solution chemistry; Lösningskemi; Agricultural engineering; Jordbruksteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis studied the viability of recycling filter substrates as soil amendments after being used in on-site systems for phosphorus (P) removal from wastewater. Focus was put on the materials Filtra P and Polonite, which are commercial products used in compact filters in Sweden. READ MORE

  5. 20. Sustainable management of the Salalah coastal aquifer in Oman using an integrated approach

    Author : Mahaad Issa Shammas; Gunnar Jacks; Ronny Berndtsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; groundwater; cosatal aquifer; salt water instrusion; fog; modelling; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Most of the coastal areas around the globe depend on coastal aquifers vulnerable to salt water intrusion. The Salalah plain in southern Oman is underlain by a shallow limestone aquifer extending north up to the foot of the Jabal AlQara which reach a height of about 1000 m. READ MORE
