  1. 1. Investigations of the retention mechanisms in hydrophilic interaction chromatography

    Author : Ngoc Phuoc Dinh; Knut Irgum; Andrew J. Alpert; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HILIC; hydrophilic interaction chromatography; adsorption isotherm; water enriched layer; multivariate data analysis; retention mechanism; separation; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Hydrophilic interaction chromatography is well known as a powerful technique separation of polar and ionizable compound nowadays. However the retention mechanism of the technique is still under debate. Understanding retention mechanism would facilitate the method development using the technique and its future improvement. 2. 2. Is water a crucial factor in the oxidation of FeCrAl alloys?

    Author : Helena Josefsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpha-Al203; oxidation kinetics; high temperatur corrosion; reactive elements; FeCrAl; vater vapour; transient alumina;

    Abstract : FeCrAl alloys are much used at high temperatures because the formation of a dense and slow-growing alumina scale provides resistance towards oxidation and high temperature corrosion. While the FeCrAl alloys are primarily intended for temperatures above 950ºC, they are sometimes used at lower temperature, for example as supports in automotive catalysts. READ MORE

  3. 3. Role of manganese redox cycling for trace metals in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Susanne Bauer; Per Hall; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Redox zones are defined by steep gradients of changing concentrations and changing redox potential. They form a transition zone between oxic and anoxic/sulfidic conditions, where nitrate, manganese and iron reduction occurs. These redox zones can be situated in the sediment as well as in the water column. In the Baltic Sea both types are found. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nanostructure and biomolecule interactions : Characterizing the complex

    Author : Stefan Gunnarsson; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanostructures; Proteins; Lipids; Protein corona; Aggregation; Sedimentation; Diffusion; Electron microscopy; Enzyme activity; Nanowires; Nanoparticles;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the results of studies done on various biomolecules and their interactions with nanomaterials. The biomolecule sources are everything from purified, single proteins to the complicated mixture of blood serum and cell culture media. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sulphide oxidation and geochemical processes in mine tailings

    Author : Lena Alakangas; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : The generation of acid mine drainage (AMD) from oxidation of sulphide- bearing waste is a world wide problem, due to low pH levels and the release of metals to recipients. It is therefore important to understand the fundamental geochemical processes occurring in mine waste. READ MORE
