  1. 1. Seasonal turnover in groundwater

    Author : Maria Engström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : This Licentiate Thesis presents a new approach of understanding leakage in agricultural land. Former studies concentrate on long term measurement of different pollutants in nearby watercourses and streams. The new approach is so far only numerically performed, but will soon be complemented by laboratory tests and field measurements. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fish Lenses : Anatomy and Optics

    Author : Tomasz M Kozłowski; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasticity; Development; Cellular structure; Lens fiber cells; Modeling; Laser Scanning; Schlieren photography; Fast Fourier Transform FFT ;

    Abstract : I have investigated some of the biological regulatory mechanisms governing the development of crystalline lenses. I used fish as model animals because they possess optically interesting lenses, while the geometrical simplicity of fish lenses allows for studies that are difficult or impossible with the lenses of other animals. 3. 3. Frost-induced deterioration of concrete in hydraulic structures : Interactions between water absorption, leaching and frost action

    Author : MARTIN ROSENQVIST; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : Vattenbyggnader; Dammar; Betong; Cement; Vattenabsorption; Vattenmättnadsgrad; Nedbrytning; Frostbeständighet; Spjälkning; Makroskopisk islinsbildning; Urlakning; Synergi; Hydraulic structures; Dams; Concrete; Cement; Water absorption; Degree of saturation; Deterioration; Frost resistance; Spalling; Macroscopic ice lens growth; Leaching; Synergy;

    Abstract : Frost deterioration of concrete can result in severe consequences to the safety, durability and functionality of a structure since it impairs the strength of the concrete. Frost damage may occur to structures that are in contact with water and subjected to frost action. READ MORE

  4. 4. Degradation of rock and shotcrete due to ice pressure and frost shattering

    Author : Anna Andrén; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : In recent years the Swedish Rail Administration has observed an increased incidence of shotcrete and rock fall-outs in its tunnels, for which reason it has initiated several research projects, of which the present project entitled "Degradation of rock and shotcrete due to ice pressure and frost shattering" is one. The aim of this licentiate project was to bring together experience and information relating to ice formation and the effect of ice pressure on fault zones, cracks and, in particular, the shotcrete/rock interface. 5. 5. Thaw Mechanism in Subgrades

    Author : Amin Zeinali; Jan Laue; Tommy Edeskär; Sven Knutsson; Guy Dore; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Freezing-thawing, changes the properties of soil due to the phase change of the water in the soil body. Freezing-thawing cycles in the soil have been studied for several decades including extensive laboratory research. In this study, the main focus is thawing based on laboratory investigation. READ MORE
