1. Water powered percussive rock drilling : process analysis, modelling and numerical simulation
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to problems, processes and systems related to the recently developed water powered percussive rock drilling method. The technology, which uses ordinary water to drive down-the-hole hammers, has been used to produce more than 6 million meters of blast holes within the mining industry. READ MORE

2. Water in roads: Flow paths and pollutant spread
Abstract : For better road construction and maintenance while minimising damage to the environment and groundwater, it is essential to monitor and model hydrological impacts on roads and consider pollution of groundwater. Water content in unbound material in road layers changes continuously and water flow usually occurs along pathways that are the main corridors for pollutant spread to groundwater. READ MORE

3. A flexible and polarizable water model built on interpolated multipoles
Abstract : Water has a rich phase diagram with regions of meta-stability, the prime examples being super-cooled and super-heated liquid water.Below ca 50 °C, water exhibits unusual and not yet fully explained anomalous thermodynamic properties upon cooling, for example a minimum in compressibility at 46 °C, a minimum in heat capacity at 35 °C, a density maximum at 4 °C, and a compressibility maximum at -44 °C in the supercooled liquid, at ambient pressure. 4. Effects of deep excavations in soft clay on the immediate sourroundings-Analysis of the possibility to predict deformations and reactions against the retaining system
Abstract : When excavating in an urban environment, the evaluation of the magnitude and distribution of ground movements is an important part of the design process, since excessive movements can damage adjacent buildings and utilities. In order to minimize movement of the surrounding soil, a retaining wall support system is used for deep excavations to provide lateral support. READ MORE

5. Characterisation of Fractured Rock for Grouting Using Hydrogeological Methods
Abstract : Sealing of tunnels by grouting demands knowledge concerning the fractured rock and the grout, followed by an appropriate choice of strategy and equipment. In this thesis, the characterisation of rock is the main issue and, since it addresses the engineering problem of producing a description for grouting, the properties of grout and the grouting procedure need to be considered.
