  1. 1. Heat and water flows in freezing and thawing soils : numerical modelling, laboratory and field observations

    Author : Helén Engelmark; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : A laboratory study of infiltration rates into frozen and unfrozen fine sand, including temperature effects of both soil and infiltration water, is reported. The average infiltration rate varied from about 10.6 mm/min for unfrozen conditions, to about 1-2 mm/min for frozen conditions. READ MORE

  2. 2. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal

    Author : Ida Morén; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Roy Haggerty; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyporheic exchange flow; Hydrological modeling; Solute transport; Stream restoration; Nitrogen; Power spectral analysis; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi;

    Abstract : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 3. 3. Coagulant Protein from plant materials: Potential Water Treatment Agent

    Author : Ida Bodlund; Gunaratna Kuttuva Rajarao; Anna Norström; Andres Veide; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; antimicrobial effect; Brassica; coagulant protein; MO2.1; Moringa oleifera; Mustard; napin; thermo-resistance; plant material; protein extraction; salt extract.;

    Abstract : Access to fresh water is a human right, yet more than 780 million people, especially in rural areas, rely on unimproved sources and the need for finding ways of treating water is crucial. Although the use of natural coagulant protein in drinking water treatment has been discussed for a long time, the method is still not in practice, probably due to availability of material and limited knowledge. 4. 4. A numerical model to simulate short-term beach and dune evolution

    Author : Jie Zhang; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical model; cross-shore transport; beach profile change; dune erosion; offshore mound; storms;

    Abstract : Sediment transport in the cross-shore (CS) and associated changes in the beach profile, especially during storms, have been topics of widespread concern. Since storms are often accompanied by high water levels and large waves, large quantities of sand from the beach and the dune are typically transported offshore, leading to severe beach and dune erosion, which threatens the integrity of buildings and infrastructure near the coast. 5. 5. Evaluating the transport and composition of gully pot sediments : Under changing anthropogenic activities and rainfall regimes

    Author : Haoyu Wei; Lian Lundy; Maria Viklander; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : Gully pots are a fundamental runoff quality and quantity control measure installed in urban catchments around the world. However, their ubiquitous use in urban catchments also incurs a substantial resource demand in terms of routine maintenance if their continuous performance is to be assured. READ MORE
