  1. 1. Seasonal snow storage for cooling applications

    Author : Kjell Skogsberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : Seasonal snow storage for cooling applications is an ancient technique now being revived in different parts of the world. From June 2000 the first Swedish large-scale snow cooling plant provides for comfort cooling at the hospital in Sundsvall. The snow is thermally insulated by a 0. READ MORE

  2. 2. Some aspects of convection as well as graphite and carbide formations during casting

    Author : Fareed Ashraf Khan; Michael Vynnycky; Pär Jönsson; Bo Rogberg; Hasse Fredriksson; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbides; heat treatment; cast iron; ball bearing steel; casting; cooling rate; structure analysis; nodule distribution; melt stirring; nuclei; karbider; värmebehanding; gjutjärn; kullagerstål; gjutning; kylningshastighet; strukturanalys; nodulefördelning; smältrörelse; kärnor.; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : It is an established fact that segregation during casting affects the physical properties of carbon-based ferro alloys; this motivates the study of the segregation behaviour of carbon and carbide-forming solute elements. In this context, this thesis investigates two different situations: the effects of cooling rate and turbulence on the precipitation behaviour of the graphite nodules in nodular cast iron; the nature of carbide precipitation in a bearing steel grade and the effects of subsequent soaking on these carbides. 3. 3. Properties of modified starches and their use in the surface treatment of paper

    Author : Anna Jonhed; Lars Järnström; Ann-Charlotte Eliasson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surface treatment of paper; hydrophobically modified starches; temperature-responsive starch; inclusion complexes; barrier properties; Surface engineering; Ytbehandlingsteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The papermaking industry uses a large amount of starch each year, both as a wet-end additive and as a rheological modifier in surface sizing and coating colors. It is important to be able to reduce the amount of chemicals used in the papermaking and surface treatment process, to reduce costs and to make the process even more efficient. READ MORE

  4. 4. Laser treatment and disease characteristics of peri-implantitis

    Author : Sebastian Malmqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory disease which affects the soft and hard tissues surrounding dental implants. Current theory is that peri-implantitis is a counterpart to periodontitis, which is the inflammatory disease that destroys the tooth’s supporting tissues. READ MORE

  5. 5. Protection and treatment of hypothermia in prehospital trauma care : with emphasis on active warming

    Author : Peter Lundgren; Ulf Björnstig; Peter Naredi; Tore Vikström; Anne Guttormsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hypothermia; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Background: In prehospital trauma care active warming is recommended to aid in protection from further cooling. However, scientific evidence of the effectiveness of active warming in a clinical setting is scarce. Also, evaluating the effectiveness of active warming, especially in harsh ambient conditions, by objective measures, is difficult. READ MORE
