  1. 1. Milk production, fluid balance and temperature regulation in lactating camels (Camelus dromedarius)

    Author : Tafesse Bekele; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to identify good milking and watering routines for camels, and to better understand the physiological mechanisms that enable camels to produce milk during long periods of water deprivation. Milk production was increased by changing the number of milkings from one to four times per day in an on-farm study. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Fluid Mechanics of Partial Dewatering during Roll Forming in Paper Making

    Author : Richard Holm; KTH; []
    Keywords : Fluid mechanics; roll forming; partial dewatering; capillary waves;

    Abstract : The present work deals with some aspects of the fluidmechanics of paper-making,more specifically partial dewateringduring roll forming. The study is mainly experimental. Pressureand wire position measurements have been carried out in anexperimental facility, the KTH-Former,which models the rollforming zone of a paper machine. READ MORE

  3. 3. PV water pumping systems for grassland and farmland conservation

    Author : Pietro Elia Campana; Jinyue Yan; Bengt Perers; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Grassland degradation is considered as one of the worst environmental and economic problems in China because of the negative impacts on water and food security. The application of the photovoltaic water pumping (PVWP) technology for irrigation is an innovative and sustainable solution to curb the progress of grassland desertification and to promote the conservation of farmland in remote areas. 4. 4. Wells of Experience : A pastoral land-use history of Omaheke, Namibia

    Author : Karl-Johan Lindholm; Paul J. J. Sinclair; Thomas Elmqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Archaeology; Namibia; Kalahari; Omaheke; archaeology; wells; land-use history; pastoralism; Arkeologi;

    Abstract : The conventional view on the Kalahari in southern Africa expresses that the area is unsuitable for livestock herding. For this reason, it is argued that livestock herders avoided the Kalahari in the past and were only able to establish themselves in the later half of the twentieth century, when deep-reaching boreholes were introduced in the area. 5. 5. Experimental Studies of Complex Flows through Image-Based Techniques

    Author : Gabriele Bellani; FredrIk Lundell; James Olsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of experimental techniques for the study of complex flows inspired to a large extent by the papermaking process. In particular one part of this thesis is devoted to the development of laboratory experiments based on index-of-refraction matching and imaging techniques to study the behavior of dilute and concentrated suspension of elongated particles.
