  1. 1. Atmosphere-ocean Interactions in Swell Dominated Wave Fields

    Author : Alvaro Semedo; Anna Rutgersson; Oyvind Saetra; Piero Lionello; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Waves; Wind sea; Swell; Swell propagation; MABL; Air-sea interaction; Momentum flux; Wave climate; Coupling; Wave age; Empirical Orthogonal functions; Wave model; Climate model; WAM; RCA; wave heights; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : Ocean wind waves represent the atmosphere-ocean boundary, playing a central role in the air-sea exchanging processes. Heat, mass and momentum are transferred across this boundary, with waves mediating the exchange of principally the momentum between the winds and the ocean surface. During the generation process waves are called wind sea. READ MORE

  2. 2. Millimeter-wave Networking : Fundamental Limits, Scalable Algorithms, and Design Insights

    Author : Hossein Shokri-Ghadikolaei; Carlo Fischione; Gabor Fodor; Muriel Madard; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The current demands for extremely high data rate wireless services and the spectrum scarcity at the sub-6 GHz bands are forcefully motivating the use of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies. The main characteristics of mmWave communications are severe attenuation, sparse-scattering environment, huge bandwidth, vulnerability to obstacles and antenna misalignment, massive beamforming, and possible noise-limited operation. 3. 3. Dynamic Characteristics of Floating Breakwaters

    Author : Aurora Xiaomeng Lei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; floating breakwaters; couplings joints ; dynamic cables; dynamic response; line tension; wave attenuation; wave reflection;

    Abstract : The dynamic behaviour of interconnected floating breakwaters has been studied theoretically and experimentally. For this type of shore-protection system, problems that must be dealt with include wave loads on the breakwaters caused by the interaction between the bodies and the waves, motions of the moored breakwaters caused by the waves, changed wave fields in front of and behind the breakwaters, and forces on the mooring cables and in interconnections between breakwater units. 4. 4. Fluxes and Mixing Processes in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Author : Erik Olof Nilsson; Anna Rutgersson; Harm Jonker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Waves; Growing sea; Swell; Marine boundary layer; Air-sea interaction; Mixing; Momentum flux; Wind stress; Flux attenuation; Sensor separation; Large eddy simulation; Multiresolution analysis; Coupling; Wave model; Climate model; Wave age; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : Atmospheric models are strongly dependent on the turbulent exchange of momentum, sensible heat and moisture (latent heat) at the surface. Oceans cover about 70% of the Earth’s surface and understanding the processes that control air-sea exchange is of great importance in order to predict weather and climate. READ MORE

  5. 5. Strong blast wave interaction with multiphase media

    Author : Sembian Sundarapandian; Nicholas Apazidis; Konstantinos Kontis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Blast waves; negative pressure; cavitation; blast wave attenuation; RMI; KHI; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The interaction of a blast wave propagating in air with different fluids like water column, aqueous foam and thermal/density inhomogeneity have been studied both experimentally and numerically. The blast waves were generated at atmospheric conditions in a newly constructed exploding wire facility. READ MORE
