  1. 1. Atmosphere-ocean Interactions in Swell Dominated Wave Fields

    Author : Alvaro Semedo; Anna Rutgersson; Oyvind Saetra; Piero Lionello; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Waves; Wind sea; Swell; Swell propagation; MABL; Air-sea interaction; Momentum flux; Wave climate; Coupling; Wave age; Empirical Orthogonal functions; Wave model; Climate model; WAM; RCA; wave heights; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : Ocean wind waves represent the atmosphere-ocean boundary, playing a central role in the air-sea exchanging processes. Heat, mass and momentum are transferred across this boundary, with waves mediating the exchange of principally the momentum between the winds and the ocean surface. During the generation process waves are called wind sea. READ MORE

  2. 2. Buoy and Generator Interaction with Ocean Waves : Studies of a Wave Energy Conversion System

    Author : Simon Lindroth [formerly Tyrberg]; Mats Leijon; Brian Holmes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wave power; Measurement systems; Marine technology; Energy conversion; Renewable energy; Energy absorption; Wave resource; Oceanic engineering; Linear generators; Point absorbers; Sea trials; Camera systems; Accelerometers; Offshore experiments; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : On March 13th, 2006, the Division of Electricity at Uppsala University deployed its first wave energy converter, L1, in the ocean southwest of Lysekil. L1 consisted of a buoy at the surface, connected through a line to a linear generator on the seabed. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Baltic Sea Wave Field : Impacts on the Sediment and Biogeochemistry

    Author : Anette Jönsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; HYPAS; Wave modelling; Significant wave height; Wave energy; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : The wave field in the Baltic Sea has been modelled for a two-year period with the spectral wave model HYPAS. There is a large seasonal variation in the field and a minor annual one, both reflect the wind variation in the area. Since the Baltic Sea is fetch limited, the dominant wind direction is important for the maximum wave heights. READ MORE

  4. 4. Buoy Geometry, Size and Hydrodynamics for Power Take Off Device for Point Absorber Linear Wave Energy Converter

    Author : Halvar Gravråkmo; Mats Leijon; Jan Isberg; Luke Myers; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; point absorber; wave; energy; converter; ocean; wec; toroidal; buoy; torus; cylindrical; cylinder; experiment; full scale; trial; sea; energy; renewable; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : Wave energy converters of point absorber type have been developed and constructed. Full scale experiments have been carried out at sea and electricity has been successfully delivered. Linear permanent magnet generators together with a subsea substation and buoys of various geometric shapes have been investigated theoretically and experimentally. READ MORE

  5. 5. Wave Loads on Offshore Wind Power Plants

    Author : Jenny Trumars; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ocean engineering; shallow water; fatigue; Non-linear waves; wave load; wind energy converter; perturbation theory;

    Abstract : The thesis gives a short introduction to waves and discusses the problem with non-linear waves in shallow water and how they effect an offshore wind energy converter. The focus is on the realisation of non-linear waves in the time domain from short-term statistics in the form of a variance density spectrum of the wave elevation. READ MORE
