  1. 1. Transmission of waves through elastic and viscoelastic junctions

    Author : Tomas Nygren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Wave; elastic; viscoelastic; extensional; characteristic impedance; junction; transmission; reflection; dissipation; optimisation; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid Mechanics; hållfasthetslära;

    Abstract : Transmission of extensional waves through elastic and viscoelastic junctions between elastic and collinear bars have been studied theoretically and experimentally. The models used can be interpreted also for other types of waves (e.g. dilatational waves, shear waves, electromagnetic waves) and systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dynamic Characteristics of Floating Breakwaters

    Author : Aurora Xiaomeng Lei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; floating breakwaters; couplings joints ; dynamic cables; dynamic response; line tension; wave attenuation; wave reflection;

    Abstract : The dynamic behaviour of interconnected floating breakwaters has been studied theoretically and experimentally. For this type of shore-protection system, problems that must be dealt with include wave loads on the breakwaters caused by the interaction between the bodies and the waves, motions of the moored breakwaters caused by the waves, changed wave fields in front of and behind the breakwaters, and forces on the mooring cables and in interconnections between breakwater units. 4. 4. Scattering on the Timoshenko Beam. Direct and Inverse Problems in the Time Domain

    Author : Dag V. J. Billger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; integro-differential equations; wave splitting; transient wave propagation; viscoelastic damping; wave propagators; inverse problems; scattering operators; Timoshenko beam; non-uniform beams; imbedding;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the use of time domain methods for treating direct and inverse scattering problems for flexural waves on beams. The Timoshenko equation is used throughout to describe the behaviour of such waves. READ MORE

  5. 5. On focusing of shock waves

    Author : Veronica Eliasson; Nicholas Apazidis; John Dear; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; converging shock; Euler equations; imploding shock; Mach reflection; regular reflection; shock focusing; shock tube; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Both experimental and numerical investigations of converging shock waves have been performed. In the experiments, a shock tube was used to create and study converging shock waves of various geometrical shapes. Two methods were used to create polygonally shaped shocks. READ MORE
