  1. 11. Loads and responses for planing craft in waves

    Author : Anders Rosén; Dan Zenker; Brian Hayman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Applied mechanics; planing craft; high-speed craft; waves; model tests; sull-scale trials; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Experimental and numerical analysis of loads and responses for planing craft in waves is considered. Extensive experiments have been performed on a planing craft, in full-scale as well as in model scale. The test set-ups and significant results are reviewed. READ MORE

  2. 12. Waves and instabilities through the lens of asymptotic analysis

    Author : Anthony Bonfils; John Wettlaufer; Dhrubaditya Mitra; Woosok Moon; Jerome Neufeld; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; waves; wrinkles; instabilities; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : Understanding the interaction of water waves with winds and marine currents is a fundamental problem in geophysical fluid dynamics. From the point of view of hydrodynamic stability, surface waves are regarded as perturbations of an inviscid parallel shear flow modeling the wind in the air and the current in the water. READ MORE

  3. 13. Direct and inverse resonance problems for seismic surface waves

    Author : Samuele Sottile; Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inverse problems; Resonances; Spectral theory; Love waves; Rayleigh waves;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the investigation of direct and inverse resonance results for the Love and the Rayleigh operators, which arise from decoupling the three-dimensional elastic wave equation in the semiclassical limit in the half-space. Direct resonance results in terms of the asymptotic distribution of resonances in the complex plane are obtained for the Love and the Rayleigh operators. READ MORE

  4. 14. Gravitational perturbations in plasmas and cosmology

    Author : Mats Forsberg; Gert Brodin; Michael Bradley; Christopher Clarkson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; general relativity; cosmology; gravitational waves; plasma; electromagnetic waves; nonlinear waves; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik; Theory of relativity; gravitation; Relativitetsteori; gravitation; Cosmology; Kosmologi; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Gravitational perturbations can be in the form of scalars, vectors or tensors. This thesis focuses on the evolution of scalar perturbations in cosmology, and interactions between tensor perturbations, in the form of gravitational waves, and plasma waves. READ MORE

  5. 15. Extreme wave conditions and the impact on wave energy converters

    Author : Eirini Katsidoniotaki; Malin Göteman; Vincent Neary; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; extreme waves; wave energy converters; CFD; OpenFOAM; environmental contours; focused waves; breaking waves;

    Abstract : The amount of energy enclosed in ocean waves has been classified as one of the most promising renewable energy sources. Nowadays, different wave energy conversion (WEC) systems are being investigated, but only a few concepts have been operated in a sea environment. READ MORE
