6. Fabrication and characterization of graphene-superconductor devices
Abstract : Graphene is the first single-atom-thick two-dimensional material and exhibits a large set of interesting properties. This thesis consists of two parts. The first regards the growth of large-area graphene using chemical vapor deposition (CVD). READ MORE

7. Neurohormonal Modulators in the Parathyroid Gland. Localization and regulation
Abstract : The occurrence and distribution of neurohormonal peptides, neuroendocrine markers and receptors in parathyroid nerve fibers and endocrine cells are described, using immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Immunocytochemical studies revealed that parathyroid glands of chicken, rat, guinea-pig, cat, dog and sheep contained adrenergic-, cholinergic-, and peptide-containing nerve fibers. READ MORE

8. On computational homogenization of fracturing continua
Abstract : Ductile fracture is important to control in many industrial processes, be it a desired phenomenon (e.g. in metal cutting) or a failure to be prevented (e.g. READ MORE

9. Electron Transport in Semiconductor Nanowires
Abstract : In this thesis, semiconductor nanowires are studied from the point of view of growth and electrical properties. The growth of nanowires is done by chemical beam epitaxy (CBE), an ultra-high vacuum technique allowing a precise control of precursor deposition and low growth rates. READ MORE

10. Interference detection and localization in the GPS L1 frequency band
Abstract : The usage of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) in general and the American GPS in particular increases everyday and so does the number of applications where it is used. The GNSS receivers relies on receiving signals from satellites orbiting the earth at an altitude of about 20 000 km and the signals received by the receiver are signicantly weaker then the background noise.
