  1. 1. The weakest link : Governing the risk of floods and dam failure in Sweden

    Author : Erik Persson Pavlović; Lars Nyberg; Mikael Granberg; Inge Svedung; Charles Parker; Pär Olausson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; risk governance; early warning systems; flood risk; risk of dam failure; natural hazards; disaster risk reduction; preparedness; crisis management; systems theory; collaboration; participation; resilience; riskstyrning; varningssystem; översvämningsrisk; dammbrottsrisk; naturolycka; katastrofriskreducering; beredskap; krishantering; systemteori; samverkan; deltagande; resiliens; Risk and Environmental Studies; Risk- och miljöstudier;

    Abstract : The effects of climate change are already being felt today, and future effects, which will be determined by the readiness and resolve of today’s world leaders, are fraught with high levels of complexity, uncertainty, ambiguity, and transboundary effects – characteristics of systemic risk. Since climate change is seen as a threat multiplier, the risks that might be impacted by climate change, such as floods and dam failure, will be affected by systemic risk characteristics as well. 2. 2. Topology Optimization of Fatigue-Constrained Structures

    Author : Henrik Svärd; Krister Svanberg; Pierre Duysinx; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; topology optimization; fatigue constraints; stress constraints; density filters; restriction methods; weakest link theory; critical plane criteria; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : Fatigue, or failure of material due to repeated cyclic loading, is one of the most common causes of mechanical failures. The risk of fatigue in a load carrying component is often lowered by adding material, thereby reducing stresses. READ MORE

  3. 3. “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link” : collaborative care planning as a person-centred practice

    Author : Ingela Jobe; Åsa Engström; Birgitta Lindberg; Helle Wijk; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; collaborative care planning; person-centred practice; health and social care; ethics; older adults; care partners; health and social care professionals; nursing; Nursing; Omvårdnad;

    Abstract : In recent years, person-centred care has become one of the major goals of health and social care policies. A method used, to facilitate collaboration and integrate the person’s perspective in the decision-making process, is the collaborative care planning process. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hydrolytic degradation of dental composites and effects of silane-treatment and filler fraction on compressive strength and thermal expansion of composites

    Author : Karl-Johan M. Söderholm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal frictional theory; filler-matrix debonding; stress-corrosion; stressinfluenced diffusion; m icro-crack form ation; crazing; opacity; wear; osmotic pressure; hoop stresses;

    Abstract : Some researchers have suggested that the weakest link of dental composites is the filler-matrix bond. However, due to incompleteness of information dealing with this bond and its stability in a humid environment, it was considered desirable to investigate the effect of water on this region, as well as the influence of filler bonding and filler fraction on compressive strength and thermal expansionExperimental composites containing different filler fractions of either silane-treated or untreated fillers were made. 5. 5. The strength of glulam beams with holes - A probabilistic fracture mechanics method and experimental tests

    Author : Henrik Danielsson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fracture mechanics; Weibull; design; test; strength; stress; glulam; hole; probabilistic fracture mechanics.;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with experimental tests and methods for strength analysis of glulam beams with holes. Test results and methods for strength analysis available in literature are compiled and discussed. The methods considered comprise both code strength design methods and more general methods for strength analysis. READ MORE
