  1. 1. Radiant Textiles : A framework for designing with electromagnetic phenomena

    Author : Erin Lewis; Delia Dumitrescu; Katharina Bredies; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; smart textiles; interaction design; textile interaction; textile; electronic; electromagnetism electromagnetic; design methods; artistic research; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : The design of smart, interactive, computational, and electronic textiles involves working with unknown variables that expand the tangible dimensions of textiles. Non-visual concepts such as electromagnetic fields, electrical current, computational code, and the temporal attributes of materials that exhibit dynamic qualities require that textile designers be able to perceive and manipulate domains of the textile that extend beyond its conventional forms of expression. 2. 2. The mediating role of product representations. A study with three dimensional textiles in early phases of innovation

    Author : Siw Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; product representations; co-design; 3D textiles;

    Abstract : Smart textiles are understood as textiles, where new functions are integrated to form a textile system that can react and interact with the environment. These new textile systems place completely new demands on the actors in the development process. READ MORE

  3. 3. Zero Waste Systems Thinking : Multimorphic Textile-Forms

    Author : Holly McQuillan; Kristina Andersen; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : Zero Waste System Thinking: Multimorphic Textile-Forms is situated in the context of the rapidly unfolding environmental crisis and the dominant response to this in the industry - the circular economy. It began by building on existing knowledge around sustainable fashion and textiles, and zero waste design practice. READ MORE

  4. 4. Composing over time, temporal patterns : in Textile Design

    Author : Barbara Jansen; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; temporal patterns; textile design; Textiles and fashion; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis investigates through practice a new field of textile design exploring the visual effects of moving light as a continuous time-based medium. Thereby, the textile design pattern reveals its composition, not in one moment of time any more, but in fact over time. READ MORE

  5. 5. Glitching the Fabric: Strategies of new media art applied to the codes of knitting and weaving

    Author : David McCallum; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; glitch art; new media art; weaving; knitting; textile design; artistic research;

    Abstract : The purpose of the research has been to explore the creative possibilities in applying strategies derived from the domain of digital media and glitch art to a range of processes in the domain of textiles—specifically weaving, knitting, bobbin lace—with particular attention to the role of notations and coding in both domains. The enquiry presented in this dissertation is based upon the proposition that there are creative possibilities that arise when approaches and strategies from new-media and glitch art are transferred to some textile processes, and that this is possible because objects of new media and textile objects share features not limited to the grid.
