  1. 1. Web Applications for Large-Scale Decision Support : Preference Elicitation, Modeling and Visualization

    Author : Samuel Bohman; Aron Larsson; Bo Sundgren; Majlender Peter; Göran Cars; Øystein Sæbø; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; World Wide Web; Decision Support Systems; Data Visualization; Man-Machine-Interaction MMI ; människa-maskin-interaktion MMI ;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the lack of effective and efficient technology design in current e-participation research by investigating two approaches that yet have not been explored to any great extent in the literature: decision science and data visualization. It is concerned with the problem of how to combine techniques from these two fields to achieve decision support in the context of e-participation; from preference elicitation and modeling to data analysis, visualization and final recommendations, such that it can provide value to practitioners. 2. 2. Two Topics in Survey Methodology : Inference from Nonprobability Samples Using the Double Samples Setup

    Author : Boris Lorenc; Daniel Thorburn; Lars Lyberg; Gösta Forsman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; response process; establishment surveys; socially distributed cognition; response burden; measurement error; nonprobability samples; web surveys; double samples; propensity scores; model-based estimation; imputation; nonparametric imputation; weighting; Surveying; Lantmäteri;

    Abstract : Modelling the response process in establishment surveys proceeded thus far by adding steps of operational character to the core cognitive steps of the individual cognitive model. Here (Paper 1) a larger unit of the cognitive analysis is posited: that part of the enterprise that is engaged in responding to a survey, consisting of one or more employees, the tools they use and the established practices of record keeping and survey responding. 3. 3. Approximation problems and weights

    Author : Adem Limani; Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; approximation problems; weights; Spaces of analytic functions;

    Abstract : This thesis is mainly concerned with investigations of approximation problems on spaces of analytic functions on the unit disc in the complex plane, which naturally arise in connection to spectral problems of certain classes of linear operators acting on the spaces in question. For instance, quasi-nilpotency of certain analytic paraproducts on the Hardy spaces and on the Bergman spaces are investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Decision support for complex planning challenges - Combining expert systems, engineering-oriented modeling, machine learning, information theory, and optimization technology

    Author : Larry M. Deschaine; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optimization; energy; model mixing; analytic hierarchy processes; data modelling engineering-oriented modelling; environmental; and MEC; UXO; model blending; Decision analysis; machine learning;

    Abstract : This thesis develops an approach for addressing complex industrial planning challenges. The approach provides advice to select and blend modeling techniques that produce implementable optimal solutions. Industrial applications demonstrate its effectiveness. READ MORE

  5. 5. How Do Bank Officers Make Lending Decisions? An Exploration of Thinking Styles, Cognitive Bias and Lending Technologies

    Author : Carl-Christian Trönnberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; lending decision making; thinking styles; cognitive bias; lending technology; sunk-cost effect;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to examine how loan officers’ think and act when making assessments of loan proposals from companies. The importance of valid loan assessments can be understood through the substantial economic crises that the global economy has suffered as well as the severe problems invalid lending decisions brings for both banks and clients.
