  2. 2. Data integration and visualization in type 2 diabetes research and care: From biological mechanisms to precision medicine

    Author : Olof Asplund; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes T2D ; human pancreatic islets; human skeletal muscle; transcriptomics; genomics; phenomics; ANDIS; diabetes; diabetics;

    Abstract : Background. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex heterogeneous disorder affecting multiple organs. Gene expression studies in organs central to T2D, such as pancreatic islets and skeletal muscle will help elucidate and disentangle molecular mechanisms underlying T2D. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulatory roles for long noncoding RNAs and circular RNAs in human skin wound repair

    Author : Maria-Alexandra Toma; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Human skin wound repair is a multiphase process, which includes inflammation, growth and remodeling, and requires the concerted communication of many cell types. During the course of healing, skin cells find themselves in a hostile environment where processes like migration, differentiation, apoptosis and proliferation must be correctly executed in order to restore the integrity of the injured tissue. 4. 4. Risk-factor control in treated hypertensive patients : epidemiological, gender-related, and quality-control aspects

    Author : Gunilla Journath; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : cholesterol; gender; hypertension; physician; primary health care; risk factors;

    Abstract : The overall aim was to investigate the risk-factor profile in patients with hypertension, and patients on combined lipid-lowering (LLD) and antihypertensive treatment (AHT) in primary health care, in order to evaluate cardiovascular risk factors in relation to age, gender, lifestyle (smoking), and gender of the physician. Objectives: To compare cardiovascular risk factors in smokers with non-smokers in a national sample of treated hypertensives (tHT) (Study I); to evaluate any gender differences in the control of blood pressure (BP) and lipid levels as well as other cardiovascular (CV) risk factors for cardiovascular disease in tHT patients in primary health care (PHC) (Study II); to investigate the relationship of physician's gender to control of blood pressure and lipid levels and CV risk factors in tHT men and women (Study III); to investigate any gender differences in CV risk factors, lipid- and BP control in patients on combined lipid-lowering (LLD) and antihypertensive treatment (AHT), stratified for gender of their physician (Study IV).
