  1. 1. Weld Cracking of Precipitation Hardening Ni-based Superalloys - Investigation of repair welding characteristics and susceptibility towards strain age cracking

    Author : Fabian Hanning; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gleeble; Haynes 282; Waspaloy; welding; ATI 718Plus®; weldability; post-weld heat treatment; weld cracking; strain age cracking; hot cracking; Nickel-based superalloys;

    Abstract : High temperature resistance and strength requirements make nickel-based superalloys the material of choice for the hot section of aero engines. Fabrication in terms of combining wrought and cast parts in the manufacturing of hot structural components enables component optimisation via the use of wrought high-strength parts, where geometrical constraints allow, and cast parts to produce complex geometries. 2. 2. Weld Cracking in Precipitation Hardening Ni-based Superalloys

    Author : Fabian Hanning; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; welding; post weld heat treatment; weldability; Nickel based superalloys; strain age cracking; weld cracking;

    Abstract : Manufacturing of hot structural components for aero engines requires the materials being used to be weldable. The high demands on strength and temperature resistance make nickel based superalloys the material of choice for this application. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modeling and Simulation of Weld Hot Cracking

    Author : Joar Draxler; Lars-Erik Lindgren; Jonas Edberg; Paul Åkerström; Jesper Hattel; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material Mechanics; Materialmekanik;

    Abstract : Several alloy systems are susceptible to weld hot cracking. Weld hot cracking occurs by fracture of liquid films, normally grain boundary liquid films, at the late stage of the solidification of the weld. The cracks can be small and therefore difficult to detect by nondestructive test methods. READ MORE

  4. 4. Welding of Heavy Structures Subjected to Fatigue

    Author : Erik Åstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Weld quality; Fillet welds; Weld procedures; Fatigue; Welded applications.; GMAW;

    Abstract : Welding is a key process for heavy steel structures, but it is also a weak link of the structure since fatigue fractures in welds are a common cause for failures. This thesis proposes several changes in order to improve the fatigue properties in a cost effective way. READ MORE

  5. 5. Weldability of Cast Superalloys - Effect of homogenization heat treatments on hot cracking susceptibility of cast Alloy 718, ATI® 718Plus®, and Haynes® 282®

    Author : Sukhdeep Singh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hot ductility; Segregation; Homogenization; Boron; Gleeble; Welding; Nickel-based superalloys; Varestraint; Hot cracking; Hot isostatic pressing; Niobium;

    Abstract : Precipitation hardened Ni- and Ni–Fe-based superalloys are used in high-temperature sections of aero engines owing to their superior mechanical properties compared to those of the other alloys. However, their better mechanical performance is accompanied by its own challenges during the manufacturing process. READ MORE
