  1. 1. Friction stir welding of copper canisters for nuclear waste

    Author : Therese Källgren; Rolf Sandström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Friction Stir Welding FSW ; Copper; Welding; Finite Element Method FEM ; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The Swedish model for final disposal of nuclear fuel waste is based on copper canisters as a corrosion barrier with an inner pressure holding insert of cast iron. One of the methods to seal the copper canister is to use the Friction Stir Welding (FSW), a method invented by The Welding Institute (TWI). READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigation and modelling of friction stir welded copper canisters

    Author : Therese Källgren; Rolf Sandström; Hannu Hänninen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Friction Stir Welding FSW ; Copper; Welding; Finite Element Method FEM ; SKB; Material flow; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This work has been focused on characterisation of FSW joints, and modelling of the process, both analytically and numerically. The Swedish model for final deposit of nuclear fuel waste is based on copper canisters as a corrosion barrier with an inner pressure holding insert of cast iron. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improved CWM platform for modelling welding procedures and their effects on structural behaviour

    Author : Per Lindström; Lars-Erik Svensson; Lennart Josefson; Hannu Hänninen; Högskolan Väst; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CWM; FEM; WELD; STRESS; EPFM; Manufacturing and materials engineering; Produktions- och materialteknik;

    Abstract : A welding procedure specification is the document describing how a weld joint should be constructed. Arc weld processes are characterized by transient thermal behavior, leading to rapid changes in material properties and dynamic interaction between weld and base material. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modeling of phase transformations and cyclic plasticity in pearlitic steels

    Author : Björn Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Phase transformations; TRIP; Pearlitic steel; FEM; Cyclic plasticity; Homogenization;

    Abstract : The low rolling resistance in railway transportation is a key factor for its high efficiency, but it comes at the price of very high contact pressure between the rail and wheel. Due to the high stresses and the large number of load cycles during railway operation, both the rail and the wheel can be susceptible to fatigue crack initiation and propagation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Heat conduction effects during laser welding

    Author : Jesper Sundqvist; Lars Pejryd; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Manufacturing Systems Engineering; Produktionsutveckling;

    Abstract : Since the invention of the laser in 1960, its use has been growing steadily. New laser sources with high beam power and high beam quality provide potential for further growth. READ MORE
