1. Homogenization of pseudoparabolic reaction-diffusion-mechanics systems : Multiscale modeling, well-posedness and convergence rates
Abstract : In this dissertation, parabolic-pseudoparabolic equations are proposed to couple chemical reactions, diffusion, flow and mechanics in heterogeneous materials using the framework of mixture theory. The weak solvability is obtained in a one dimensional setting for the full system posed in a homogeneous domain - a formulation which we have obtained using the classical mixture theory. READ MORE

2. The fW-mean filter framework for topology optimization and analysis of Friedrichs systems
Abstract : Part I. Topology optimization is the most general form of design optimization in which the optimal layout of material within a given region of space is to be determined. Filters are essential components of many successful density based topology optimization approaches. READ MORE

3. A numerical study of two-fluid models for dispersed two-phase flow
Abstract : In this thesis the two-fluid (Eulerian/Eulerian) formulation for dispersed two-phase flow is considered. Closure laws are needed for this type of models. We investigate both empirically based relations, which we refer to as a nongranular model, and relations obtained from kinetic theory of dense gases, which we refer to as a granular model. READ MORE

4. Mathematical analysis and approximation of a multiscale elliptic-parabolic system
Abstract : We study a two-scale coupled system consisting of a macroscopic elliptic equation and a microscopic parabolic equation. This system models the interplay between a gas and liquid close to equilibrium within a porous medium with distributed microstructures. We use formal homogenization arguments to derive the target system. READ MORE

5. The Continuous Galerkin Method for Fractional Order Viscoelasticity
Abstract : We consider a fractional order integro-differential equation with a weakly singular convolution kernel. The equation with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions is reformulated as an abstract Cauchy problem, and well-posedness is verified in the context of linear semigroup theory. READ MORE
