  1. 1. Restructuring the agri-food value chains in post-socialistic Balkans : the dairy value chain in FYR Macedonia

    Author : Emelj Tuna; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Like most of the Western-Balkan countries, the Former Yugoslav Republic (FYR) of Macedonia experienced significant difficulties in adapting and modernizing its agricultural production in accordance to the highly competitive regional and EU markets. By examining the dairy value chain of the FYR Macedonia, this thesis presents the challenges and changes in the organizational and institutional setting of the agri-food value chains in post-socialist Balkan countries. 2. 2. Phylogeography of the Adder, Vipera berus

    Author : Martin Carlsson; Håkan Tegelström; Michael Douglas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Phylogeography; Vipera; adders; mtDNA; microsatellites; RAPDs; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : The phylogeography of a wide ranging temperate species, the adder, Vipera berus, was investigated using several genetic tools, with special emphasis on the post-glacial colonisation pattern of Fennoscandia. The area was colonised from two directions by adder populations representing different glacial refugia. READ MORE

  3. 3. Evolutionary history and chloroplast DNA variation in three plant genera: Betula, Corylus and Salix. : The impact of post-glacial colonisation and hybridisation

    Author : Anna Palmé; Andrew Lowe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; chloroplast DNA; phylogeography; hybridization; phylogeny; Salix caprea; Betula pendula; Corylus avellana; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; naturvårdsbiologi; Conservation Biology;

    Abstract : The great difference in the level of chloroplast variation and its geographic structure among the three main species studied here demonstrates that forest species do not form a homogeneous group. Hazel shows a genetic structure similar to many other thermophilous species and this structure, in combination with fossil evidence, indicates that the post-glacial colonisation of most of Europe originated in a refugium in western France while the Balkan and Italy were colonised from a south-eastern refugium. 4. 4. Genomic variation across European cattle: contribution of gene flow

    Author : Maulik Upadhyay; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : European cattle display vast phenotypic diversity which can be attributed to genomic variation such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and structural variations (SVs).The distribution of these genomic variations in a population is heavily in uenced by different population genomic forces. 5. 5. Systematics, phylogeography and multiple origins of morphs in two species complexes belonging to Cistaceae, Helianthemum oelandicum and H. nummularium

    Author : Eman Soubani; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; introgression; parallel evolution; postglacial migration; genetic polymorphism; Pleistocene; morphometry; H. nummularium; Helianthemum oelandicum; cpDNA;

    Abstract : The Helianthemum oelandicum complex shows considerable morphological variation across its geographic distribution in Europe and western Asia. By combining four primer pairs and four restriction enzymes I identified nine cpDNA haplotypes with distinct geographical distributions. READ MORE
