  1. 21. Immunoreactive proteins in Taenia solium

    Author : Fernando Salazar-Anton; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Taenia solium cysticercosis is a neglected zoonotic disease that constitutes a serious public health problem in many low-income countries of Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Although diagnostic antigens are available, it is still necessary to identify new targets to improve the current diagnostic methods. READ MORE

  2. 22. Aggrecan fragments as biomarkers in osteoarthritis

    Author : Staffan Larsson; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protease; Aggrecan; osteoarthritis; proteoglycan; knee injury; biomarker; aggrecanase;

    Abstract : Background: In osteoarthritis (OA) the balance of cartilage matrix synthesis and degradation is disturbed, resulting in a gradual destruction of the articular cartilage. Matrix components released into body fluids by proteolytic cleavage can be used as biomarkers of ongoing processes. READ MORE

  3. 23. Recognition molecules of the complement system: C1q and mannan-binding lectin in autoimmunity and immune defence

    Author : Ulla Mårtensson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; serologi; Immunologi; Immunology; serology; autoantibodies; collectins; complement; autoimmunity; Infections; Infektioner;

    Abstract : The C1 subcomponent C1q and the mannan-binding lectin (MBL) are recognition proteins of the complement system, and have similar structure. C1q binds to IgG and IgM and activates the classical pathway. MBL binds to carbohydrate structures and activates the lectin pathway. READ MORE

  4. 24. Alterations in receptor expression and function in scrapie-infected neuronal cell lines

    Author : Heléne Lindegren; Katarina Bedecs; David Brown; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Abstract : This study shows that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces a robust, concentration-and time-dependent increase in nitric oxide (NO) production in the murine neuroblastoma cell line N2a by increased expression of iNOS. However, in scrapie-infected N2a cells (ScN2a), the LPS-induced NO production was completely abolished. READ MORE

  5. 25. Immunological aspects of papillary thyroid carcinoma

    Author : Steven D. Lucas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Papillary thyroid carcinoma; immunology; tumor antigens; RET proto-oncogene; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is a puzzling disease. Although approximately 70% of patients with PTC have regional lymph node metastases at initial surgery, the long term survival is over 95%. READ MORE
