  1. 1. Passenger Car Wheel Aerodynamics

    Author : Christoffer Landström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; tyres; wind tunnel; Passenger car aerodynamics; ground simulation; wheel rotation; drag; wheels;

    Abstract : Current and future requirements for efficiency force the automotive industry to consider all aspects of reducing the energy consumption of road going vehicles. An important aspect of reducing fuel consumption is reduced aerodynamic drag, which at highway cruising speeds is dominating the total drag force for both cars and heavy goods vehicles. READ MORE

  2. 2. Wheel Housing Aerodynamics of Heavy Trucks

    Author : David Söderblom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : For trucks in long-haul operation the aerodynamic drag constitutes more than half of the total driving resistance, and by optimising the aerodynamics of thevehicle it is possible to reduce the fuel consumption significantly. The drag of the underbody, including wheels, wheel housings and engine compartment, accounts for a large part of that aerodynamic drag, and very little aerodynamic optimisation has been carried out in this specific area on heavy trucks. 3. 3. Investigation of Wheel Housing Flow on Heavy Trucks

    Author : David Söderblom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Increasing fuel prices and demands for reductions of emissions have led to a considerably increased interest in developing more efficient vehicles. Besides designing more efficient power units with lower fuel consumption and emission levels it is possible to increase the total efficiency of the vehicle by aerodynamic optimization. READ MORE

  4. 4. On Tyre Rotation Modelling and Cooling Flow Measurements

    Author : Teddy Hobeika; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; Aerodynamics; Tyres; cooling flow; air mass flow;

    Abstract : With the technological computer advancements, vehicle development is relying more and more on simulations as an alternative to testing. A similar trend follows in aerodynamic development of vehicles where Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulations are increasing in complexity and accuracy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Wheel Modelling and Cooling Flow Effects on Car Aerodynamics

    Author : Teddy Hobeika; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : In recent years, the automotive industry has focused on computer simulations as an alternative to physical testing. This allows for early vehicle optimization, short turn around times, and significant cost savings. READ MORE
