  1. 1. Theory and Applications of Tri-Axial Electromagnetic Field Measurements

    Author : Roger Karlsson; Bo Thid'e; Tobia Carozzi; Gudmund Wannberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; polarisation; polarization; Stokes parameters; antenna; radio waves; whistler wave; SEE; direction-finding; statistics; Poynting theorem; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : Polarisation, which was first studied in optics, is a fundamental property of all electromagnetic fields. A convenient way to describe the polarisation of two dimensional electromagnetic fields is given by the Stokes parameters. This thesis deals with different aspects of wave polarisation and electromagnetic field measurements. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stability and Statistical Analysis of Transient Waves in Fusion Plasmas

    Author : Gergö Pokol; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; short-time Fourier transform; transient MHD mode; wavelet transform; quasi-linear diffusion; runaway electron; transient transport; stellarator; tokamak disruption; fusion plasma physics; whistler wave;

    Abstract : Thermonuclear energy generation in magnetically confined plasmas offers an appealing energy source for coming generations. Some of the still unsolved problems in fusion plasma physics involve plasma transport and stability of plasma waves. Two such problems are addressed in the present thesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electrostatic turbulence and electron heating in collisionless shocks

    Author : Ahmad Lalti; Yuri V. Khotyaintsev; Hans Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik med inriktning mot rymd- och plasmafysik; Physics with specialization in Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : Collisionless shocks are one of the most peculiar phenomena in space where non-linear collective phenomena in the plasma dominate the dynamics. They are believed to be one of the most efficient particle accelerators in the universe, and have internal dynamics that are yet to be fully explored. READ MORE

  5. 5. VLF Chorus Activity Associated with Substorm Particle Injections

    Author : Andrew Collier; KTH; []
    Keywords : space physics; magnetosphere; VLF waves; substorms;

    Abstract : The Substorm Chorus Event (SCE) is a Very Low Frequency(VLF) radio phenomenon observed on the ground after the onsetof the substorm expansion phase. It consists of a band of VLFchorus emissions with rising upper and lower cutofffrequencies. READ MORE
