  1. 1. Identification of Stochastic Nonlinear Dynamical Models Using Estimating Functions

    Author : Mohamed Abdalmoaty; Håkan Hjalmarsson; Adrian Wills; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Prediction Error Method; Maximum Likelihood; Data-driven; Learning; Stochastic; Nonlinear; Dynamical Models; Non-stationary Linear Predictors; Intractable Likelihood; Latent Variable Models; Estimation; Process Disturbance; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Data-driven modeling of stochastic nonlinear systems is recognized as a very challenging problem, even when reduced to a parameter estimation problem. A main difficulty is the intractability of the likelihood function, which renders favored estimation methods, such as the maximum likelihood method, analytically intractable. READ MORE

  2. 2. Asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones : Catalyst development and mechanistic investigation

    Author : Katrin Ahlford; Hans Adolfsson; Martin Wills; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymmetric catalysis; reduction; amino acid; rhodium; mechanistic investigation; kinetic study; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The development of ligands derived from natural amino acids for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of prochiral ketones is described herein. In the first part, reductions performed in alcoholic media are examined, where it is found that amino acid-derived hydroxamic acids and thioamides, respectively, are simple and versatile ligands that in combination with [RhCp*Cl2]2 efficiently catalyze this particular transformation. 3. 3. Theoretical Descriptions of Complex Magnetism in Transition Metals and Their Alloys

    Author : Marcus Ekholm; Igor Abrikosov; Sergey Simak; Leonid Pourovskii; John M. Wills; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, various methods for studying solids by simulations of quantummechanical equations, have been applied to transition metals and their alloys. Transition metals such as Fe, Ni, and Mn, are not only cornerstones in modern technology, but also key components in the very fabric of the Earth interior. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tailoring Gaussian processes and large-scale optimisation

    Author : Carl Jidling; Thomas B. Schön; Niklas Wahlström; Adrian Wills; Lars Kai Hansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gaussian processes; Tomographic reconstruction; Large-scale optimisation; Electrical Engineering with specialization in Signal Processing; Elektroteknik med inriktning mot signalbehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis is centred around Gaussian processes and large-scale optimisation, where the main contributions are presented in the included papers.Provided access to linear constraints (e.g. equilibrium conditions), we propose a constructive procedure to design the covariance function in a Gaussian process. 5. 5. Economic Decisions and Social Norms in Life and Death Situations

    Author : Oscar Erixson; Henry Ohlsson; Mikael Elinder; Matthew Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; mortality; social norms; dicrimination; maritime disasters; altruism; estate division; wills; equal sharing; bequests motives; inheritances; windfall gains; tax reform; labor income; capital income; health; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : Essay 1: (with Mikael Elinder) Since the sinking of the Titanic, there has been a widespread belief that the social norm of “women and children first” (WCF) gives women a survival advantage over men in maritime disasters, and that captains and crew members give priority to passengers. We analyze a database of 18 maritime disasters spanning three centuries, covering the fate of over 15,000 individuals of more than 30 nationalities. READ MORE
