  1. 1. Semipermeable membrane devices as integrative tools for monitoring nonpolar aromatic compounds in air

    Author : Hanna Söderström; Mats Tysklind; Per-Anders Bergqvist; Jochen F. Muller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; air pollution; alkyl-PAHs; atmosphere; bioavailability; boundary layer; diffusive sampling; emissions; integrative; membrane; monitoring; nitro-PAHs; PAHs; particles; passive samplers; PCBs; plants; PRCs; release rate; sampler design; sources; SPMDs; traffic; uptake rate; wind effect; wood burning; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Air pollutants pose a high risk for humans, and the environment, and this pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing modern society. Active air sampling is the technique that has been traditionally used to monitor nonpolar aromatic air pollutants. READ MORE

  2. 2. SCALING UP RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES - The role of resource mobilisation in the growth of technological innovation systems

    Author : Kersti Karltorp; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; resource mobilisation.; scaling up technologies; Wind power; technological innovation system; biorefineries;

    Abstract : Rapid and large-scale diffusion of renewable energy technologies is needed to avoid severe climate changes that would dramatically affect the conditions for human life on Earth. To scale up these technologies involves technological development, but also the alteration of structures that are locked-in to established socio-technical systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    Author : Mohamed Nor bin Desa Mohamed; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; velocity; vector; monsoon; Malaysia; thunderstorm; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optimization of low-cost integration of wind and solar power in multi-node electricity systems: Mathematical modelling and dual solution approaches

    Author : Caroline Granfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; variable renewable electricity; Lagrangian relaxation; ADMM; electricity system modelling; variable splitting; capacity expansion; cost optimization; variation management; consensus algorithm; subgradient algorithm;

    Abstract : The global production of electricity contributes significantly to the release of CO2 emissions. Therefore, a transformation of the electricity system is of vital importance in order to restrict global warming. READ MORE

  5. 5. Essays on Renewable Energy Technology Development and Voluntary Carbon Offsets

    Author : Åsa Lindman; Tooraj Jamasb; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of an introduction and five self-contained papers addressing the issues of renewable energy technology development and voluntary carbon offsets, respectively. Paper I presents the results from a semi-experimental study of Swedish students’ stated willingness to purchase emission allowances for carbon dioxide within the European emissions trading scheme.
