  1. 16. Spaceborne SAR in Sea Ice Monitoring: Algorithm Development and Validation for the Baltic Sea

    Author : Anders Berg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; synthetic aperture radar; ice drift; sea ice; ice type; ice concentration;

    Abstract : The usefulness of new spaceborne synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) sensors at L-, C-, and X-band for operational sea ice monitoring in the Baltic Sea has been evaluated. It is concluded that the information content in C-band and X-band data is largely equivalent, although larger spatial coverage is an advantage of the current C-band satellites. READ MORE

  2. 17. Wind Turbine Noise and Natural Sounds : Masking, Propagation and Modeling

    Author : Karl Bolin; Mats Åbom; Jens Forssén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wind turbine noise; models of natural sound sources; masking; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Abstract : Wind turbines are an environmentally friendly and sustainable power source. Unfortunately, the noise impact can cause deteriorated living conditions for nearby residents. The audibility of wind turbine sound is influenced by ambient sound. This thesis deals with some aspects of noise from wind turbines. READ MORE

  3. 18. Air-sea exchange of O2 and CO2 : Processes controlling the transfer efficiency

    Author : Andreas Andersson; Anna Rutgersson; Brian Ward; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-sea flux; oxygen; transfer velocity; water-side convection; Arctic; UVCN; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : World oceans cover more than 70% of the earth surface and constitutes a major sink of atmospheric CO2. Two of the most important gases in the marine carbon cycling are O2 and CO2 and hence accurate descriptions of the air-sea gas exchange of these gases are crucial. READ MORE

  4. 19. Turbulence Structure and Fluxes over Sea

    Author : Erik Nilsson; Anna Rutgersson; Mark Kelly; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary-layer; Air-sea interaction; turbulent fluxes; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : Understanding the processes that control air-sea exchange of momentum, sensible heat and moisture (latent heat) is of great importance for atmospheric and oceanic modelling. In the atmosphere, for instance, cyclone intensity and track depends on these processes. READ MORE

  5. 20. Land-Sea Interactions in the Coastal-Marine System of the Baltic Sea under Hydro-Climatic Variability

    Author : Yuanying Chen; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Carmen Prieto; Marco Marani; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Baltic Sea; nutrient loads; hydro-climatic variability; hydrodynamics; solute transport; water quality.; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates a few important component processes for understanding and quantifying eutrophication in the Baltic Sea, that include characterization of nutrient loadings from land, water flow in the sea under changing climate conditions and transport of solutes originating from different locations along the coast. Furthermore, this study aims to improve our understanding on how processes from land (the nutrient loading conditions) and the sea (transport dynamics and water quality) couple to determine the fate of nutrients in the sea and the water quality in a selected localized coastal area, the Himmerfjärden Bay.
